US Airways Pilot/FA Recall

I'm curious to see realistic retirement numbers. Where would a 2011 new hire be in 10 years assuming zero growth?

Furloughed, like 1800 other USA pilots were just prior to Fall 2005

I received another recall letter in the mail today. Group II recall class starting in late Feb. There is also another ERJ class starting around then. Does anyone have any idea where the Group IIs will be? If the Group IIs are only in PHL then I would rather be a 190 line holder.

Not sure where the vacancies will be but generally PHL is more senior after LGA and BOS closed.

Look for an April bid soon. New hires are on the way....

March bid the junior positions on group II were DCA and CLT.

1. When you say "new hires" you mean guys who have never worked here before?

2. If we are hiring off the street then we can assume that all the furloughs from 2008/2009 are called back (or given the chance) and the only guys not working (but still on the list) are guys on extended LOA?

3. Do you have any "stats" on how many of the 200 (or so) 2008/2009 furloughs came back?

4. Will we continue to give PDT/PSA guys pref. interviews like in 2007/2008?

You're a 190 F/O. I'm assuming you work for us but may not? I ask because most of these questions would be answered from the Furlough Committee updates. Here's a good portion of the latest update which should answer most or all of your questions.

1) This month an additional four pilots returned to the PHL E-190. A total of 108 pilots were recalled in 2010. At this time, all 224 furloughed pilots have been offered return to the E-190. The remaining 32 (of original 84) East furloughed pilots are scheduled to return on January 24 or sometime in the first part of 2011 to Group 2 airplanes unless they want to return to the E-190. (Note: All pilots can bypass recall to the E-190; many do, because of the pay.)
2) Pilots currently out on EVLA who are not under a third-party contract were sent letters by US Airways and had to reply by December 15th to inform the Company of their intention to return in 2011. Pilots are currently waiting for class dates from the Company in the beginning of 2011 (information supplied by EVLA pilots).
3) The recall of 20 West positions is still tentatively scheduled for later in the first quarter of 2011 and will most likely be split up into at least two classes, possibly in February and March.
4) We are pleased to announce that at this time US Airways has scheduled 12 new hire pilots to start Basic Indoc class on January 3rd for positions on the E-190 in PHL. Pending additional pilots taking recalls, we should have up to 51 new hires for the E-190 in the first half of 2011. The last report from the Company is that we can tentatively plan on a class each month until all 51 positions are filled or Resource Planning announces additional staffing needs. These 51 positions are from the 60 announced in the last update from Resource Planning (5 additional recalled pilots attended November 15th class and 4 pilots attended the December 13th class). All tentative classes should be completed in the first half of 2011.
5) Since last summer, US Airways has recalled or scheduled to recall/hire 179 pilots. This is in addition to those who have returned from EVLA and those who have returned/remain on Military leave (4 pilots).
As of today, US Airways will have returned 56 West pilots (40 recalled to PHX, 3 on Military leave and 13 to the PHL E-190) and 52 East pilots (51 recalled to the PHL E-190 and 1 on Military leave) for a total recall of 108 pilots, with 116 pilots remaining on furlough.

Actually reading the updates is what prompted me to ask LD the above questions. How do we have "new hire" pilots when 116 remain on furlough? They need to be more specific - like the 116 that remain have been offered 190 but are waiting for G2 or this many of the 116 have not indicated a return or at LOA ect...

All 224 pilots have been offered recall to the 190 (all meaning East and West furloughed pilots). A furloughed pilot may bypass the 190 indefinitely. Also, there is no provision requiring the pilot to indicate he wishes to return at a later date or only return to group 2. He simply bypasses each opportunity. Therefore there will be no information available to either the company or the union what will occur in the future.

We will have new hire pilots because the company needs to fill 190 vacancies (allowing others to bid up to group 2) and there are currently no remaining furloughed pilots willing to take those spots.

just curious but what is the age demographic for both the Cactus guys and the US Airways guys. A contact of mine at AA said they (AA) will be hurting big time due to age related issues, mandatory retirements and guys medicalling out.

Same boat over here. East is a rather old pilot group on average. 200+ guys turning 65 starting in two years. Plenty of guys with large sick banks (some at the max of 1500 hours) that may start to "get sick" soon.
