Your posts speak volumes about what kind of pilot/person you are. I guess you think your "paid for job" is going to make you competitive for those highly sought after...only the best need apply...management jobs. I say, good luck and god speed. We had types like you in the military. That is not a compliment and I will leave it at that.

I just stated the facts. Facts are, a UPS management pilot position is highly pursued and while anyone can apply, don't be suprised if you don't get it. This whole industry is competitive like this. These manangement pilot positions are at the top of the food chain and few will make it there. How many people become test pilots or better yet play pro sports. It is not a put down by any stretch!

Don't know what you mean by we had types like you in the military but I bet when you were in the military you were the typical sour grapes line guy who couldn't make it as an exec or hack it to become a check airman. You probably hated those who perfomed at the high levels necessary to achieve such status. Grow up!

The guy who posted said nothing of being a management pilot but you had to chime in and say he did not have a chance and would only be able to go line...as if a line pilot is a step below the management pilot. Where do you get that from??? By the way, I am still in the military and held both jobs you mentioned. Having a great time too!!!

[With regard to the “networking” for a management position, I realize this is an anonymous board and you’re always wondering who’s telling the truth and who’s baiting, but I promise you I personally know 3 people who recently interviewed for management positions with no recommendations whatsoever. In fact, one guy just called to ask if HR had received his resume and was scheduled for an interview right then. In other words, it's easier to get in as management than it is to get hired as a line pilot.


Getting an interview for the FMS position is not easy at all. From what I was told by HR during my interview, over 800 applied for the position, 100 were called in for the 1st interview, less then half are invited back for the second interview, few make it to the hiring pool.

thank you. It is HARD! 100 out of 800. And then 50 make it out of 800 to the final interview. Not good odds at all. One other aspect about the management position is the hours requirements. They are a lot more competitive than the line!

I didn't say it was easy to get in as a manager...I said it was easier than getting in as a line pilot.

By your own numbers, 100 of 800 getting called for an interview...or simply 1 out of 8...the odds of getting called to interview for management are much better than the odds of getting called for a line interview. I honestly don't know how many line-pilot applications are currently on file or how many of those have recommendations, but I do know it's in the thousands.

With hiring numbers of roughly 300 pilots per year, a 1 in 8 shot of getting an interview for a management position is a hell of a lot better than the odds of getting called for a line-pilot slot.

To even apply for a management spot you need a lot higher quals! Look at the minimum requirements to even apply. They are a lot more restricive than just a line joe. If more people met the quals you can bet there would probably be 4 times the amount of applicants for a prestigous position such as this.
