I say good on this guy!
He understands it is all about the passengers. (And yes I do understand that management is directly responsible for the clusterf##k of mis-managing the monies that those passengers provide).
I contrast this guy against an experience I had on UAL this past summer when I took the family to HNL.
We sat on this UAL 777 for 3.5 hours on a MX delay in HNL without a single word from the Captain. We would get an update about once an hour from the gate agent. After 3.5 hours the flight was cancelled.
Never heard from or even saw the flight crew. Kind of glad actually after sitting there for so long and then still having to fly to DEN.
We did get all the ice water we could care to drink while we waited though.
But hey...we did get 10 bucks of vouchers to eat with the next day. Anyone that has been to HNL should be able to detect the sarcasm regarding this issue.
Guys need to let go of their egos with this job. There is absolutely NO prestige to go along with it anymore. (Is that why you got into it anyways? Did you look forward to strutting throught terminals commanding awe and respect???)
We are simply blue collar workers that happen to wear a white collar shirt.
