United Airlines and Continental Airlines Jumpseat Priority Agreement

United does not have any authority to say who goes on a jumpseat of an express carrier. Just wait till Mesa and SKYW sign a similar agreement. This is not a good precedent, they should have included the express people of both sides on the priority
 
What sort of asinine reasoning went into this?
 
How do you tell? I have never seen anyone with scab tattooed on their head.

When you check credentials ask for ID, license, medical and Union card. Scabs don't have one.
 
Continental scabs have union cards. ALPA in an effort to increase revenue turned a blind eye to any past line crossers and Knighted them "beneficial' to the cause...

Try using that Captain's Authority the next time you are flying a Sports or Military charter. You try to put a jumpseater in your jumpseat and see how that goes over. It doesn't matter whether you fly for a regional, national or major. The person who payed for the charter has bought every seat and has the right to determine how the seats in the aircraft are occupied. During scheduled operations the major carrier has purchased every seat and thus can determine how they are loaded. If the contracted carrier is positioning aircraft, flying at will or even flying maintenance test flights then they can determine how the seats are occupied because they are paying for the flights themselves.

Except that the lowly regional Captain has the final say on who rides on his jumpseat.

Maybe UAL is trying to generate revenue form employees commuting by having them non-rev instead of jumpseat...of course the people behind this probably don't commute.

Or maybe (and the most likely cause) is that it is that time of the month for the new UAL Chairwoman.

She's not in office yet. But come Jan 01, watch out!

If the lowly Captain feels that a mainline pilot is riding the jumpseat, while his buds sit at the gate, will cause a distraction thus compromising safety, then by all means, deny! Especially when its that time-o-the-month for ya.
 
What's really revealing about this is how quickly it came out. UAL released this the day of the announcement of CAL joining the Star Alliance and it was quickly followed by an UAL MEC release. The CAL MEC is still trying to figure out how to get a first class rest seat for international flights they gave away on C02. CAL pilots are gonna be crushed in the merger.
 
You can expect regional caps to return the favor and allow other express pilots on their jumpseat with higher priority even if they show up at the gate 10 minutes prior with a UAL or CAL guy there first.

This is probably not going to turn out good at all.
