Equal opportunity many destroyed by both sides. unions limit a company's flexibility and is why the UAW companaies lost ground to the Japanesse auto makers.

You're right on the flexibility thing. Right now our company has to flexibility to do just about anything they want. They can gut health care, institute new policies via email overnight, take away duty rigs ("13:30s" in this case), ignore FSM governance procedures that they themselves signed, give you a choice on whether or not to sign a particular new policy ("5 docs" including DRM) and then have it written into a contract whether you said yes or no,... I could go on.

Nobody likes the "angry union guy" who is a nightmare to fly with because he just b!tches for four days straight. Fortunately, most of us in favor of obtaining representation and a CBA are more moderate than hardline. I will say, however, that with all the crap the company is doing to us this year, there are a lot more "angry" pilots here than there used to be. Whose fault is that?

So this flexibility that the company enjoys is good for them and bad for us. And all that's about to come to an end. I look forward to getting to work on our first CBA.

Wow, you echoed my comment on this on another board the other day. I said that I never thought that, as a member of management, I'd say this. But you need a union fast! Companies that experience union drives in this day and age deserve it, in my opinion because they don't do it right.

By that I don't mean always giving raises and benefits. Even if you have to deliver bad news, there is a way to do it. I once worked for a company that had a school for kids thrown out of the system that was licensed by the state with a July 1 contact. They had it forever. But in March they learned they had competition for the next contract. Everyone, including the VP of HR (who had no HR training but was just promoted) said to keep it hush-hush. I disagreed and won. We explained it, staff gave ideas to improve the renewal application. Guess what? The state loved it and everyone kept their jobs!

What does that tell you about this pilot group? Fortunately this new PEA is probably going to be the last nail in the coffin for the DR.
