Funny, I just had to spend some time in MSP. All the Delta mainline guys wear hats. All the commuter pilots slack around with no hats. Guess which group looks more professional?

No hats!!!! Awesome news hate those clown hats anyway!

Double breasted aviation Gods! Whatever

Ha! Go read some of their comments on APC. A lot of em don't like the hat either.

Orville and Wilbur, supersonic flight, and the day hats became optional at ASA/ExpressJet. Today is a monumental day in aviation history; the hat is dead, praise God...

Seriously, does every company memo need a companion post on FI? Hats were never going to be required for economic reasons, but go ahead and enjoy the illusion that it was our choice.

Let's see, bunch of middle aged gray haired white dudes vs a bunch of severely underpaid sleep deprived twenty-somethings carrying lunchboxes because they can't afford Wendy's 9 times a trip, and you think the hat is what's making the difference?

Well, its all about public perception. Wear your uniform with pride, including the hat, and the passengers feel comfortable. Slouch around with no hat, no tie, iPod and you look like a dork.

You imply their is no middle ground between d-bag and dork.

While I agree it is vital that we all look professional, if hats truly made the difference in public opinion, TSA would be wearing them.

A Woody woodpecker avatar is what makes one look like a dork

You obviously are unaware of what Woody represents. I attribute that to your youth.

You think the public views TSA as professional? Really?

While I think spiky hair and iPods look dorky and unprofessional I also feel that most of the guys that I fly with, that wear hats (not all) are generally pretty dorky as well. Also, either I'm missing all these people with spiky hair and iPods or I'm just really not paying much attention, but I don't see this big group roving around.

Now you are really lost.

The young ones are the normal offenders on the spiky hair and ipods. Give them a chance to mature.

The ones that wear an optional have other issues. If someone wears an optional hat they most always fit into one of these categories:

Can't fly proficiently, self-esteem problems, trying too hard, inferiority complex, Big fish little pond, or EGO issues.

I look as professional as possible. When I see a hat guy....I'm on my toes.
