When I got at SWA I was privileged to fly with Capts who were at SWA when there were only 3 airplanes. From them and others I learned that training and the culture encouraged the same thing - SAFETY. Did we do 15 turns, yes, did we press the field yes. Were we encouraged to violate limitations and FARs - NO. Does SWA have a few guys who are cowboys, yes - just like every other airline. I'll say again from my experience at SWA the training and the culture encourages the same thing - safety.

Fair enough. I have been in some that say one thing (don't fly sick) but really mean something else (please come into the CP's office each time you're sick--maybe we'll have the company doc do an eval on you). They say one thing but clearly mean another.

Lets see ,stand in line forever to get a card for your seat on SW or sit in a lounge and play on the computer??? uuummmhh
..

Ummmmmmmmmm, the cards have been gone for a long long time. You want to bust on our product, fine, but it would help if you understood it first. You think we're lucky, but I think the head shed has made most of that luck.

what you a scab? thought your co-workers were on strike?

Are you kidding me? Reading your posts, you are one of the most
obnoxious, dim-witted professionals I have had the pain reading from. Where do you get the gal talking about scabs? Here’s a question for you hotshot, what generation was the last line-crossers from and are you even close to their age? Keep your comments relative to issues you can comprehend.

When SWA starts worrying about the complexities of actually taking pax out of the continental US, then we’ll talk about similarities. For now, enjoy your time at the top... history tells us it doesn’t last forever.

I was talking about a possible NWA line crossing MX scab. Looks as if that strike is still going on a$$hole. If you noticed that was in response to his smarta$$ comment about SWA, I guess you didn't catch on to that..... a bunch of you might have missed that.

What was 2005, generation Y or is it Z? Looks as if I might be a little older then 6 months. Dumba$$.

Don't take my word for it: http://workdayminnesota.org/view_article.php?id=8aa8e7b62104cd9fcce01b03dfb71687

I understand thats all you have left, international stuff. This thread had nothing to do with international flying, nothing. But you might get your wish, sooner then you think, we will get a piece of that pie too. You will not personally be taking people out of the country for 10-15 years maybe your co-workers do, but it will take you sometime.

flopgut...sure reads like an honest question to me? Its not like I typed "I hope your pension goes away soon" I just asked if its been funded and how long do they think it will be around? Just some grown-up questions.

Well, then lets follow your suggestion that we "read back" into some of your posts to try to understand the context of your statement. I think its pretty easy to tell your mocking someone's dire situation.

I have a better exercise for you. This one is not so easy. Find one of your posts where your not acting like an a$$hole.

scarlet,

People like you have been making similar observations about SWA's amenities versus the other airlines for 25 years. It's nothing new, yet somehow SWA still chugs along doing fine and it wasn't by luck. They have management that knows what they're doing.

Depends on how you define luck. I think it was 90% luck, but that is just me. I would enjoy telling you my reasoning if you want. Not saying I'm totally right, but I'm not wrong either.

With regard to IFE, like anything, you lead follow or get out of the way. SWA is not leading or following, so I guess they are getting out of the way. IFE is no folly, folks like having that available to them. Shoot, Ryanair is going to shape the whole business around inflight entertainment/shopping/gambling aspiring to one day offer the seat for free! I would say Frontier and JetBlue are leading. My airline is not doing enough but they are at least following. SWA is far enough behind on this it is going to be too tall an order to get caught up on this strategic necessity in a smart, succinct manner.

Look Fapgut, nobody on that NWA thread made a big deal out of it, nobody. Actually, the dude, I was talking to, NOT YOU answered my questions.

You have to look harder then that to find something on me. You follow me all over flightinfo.com, what you looking for a date or something? I'm not interested.

Yeah, I guess what he is saying if we get IFE then maybe we will make a profit. Oh, don't we do that already (easy SWA/FO...easy...don't sound to cocky, everyone on flightinfo.com is going to cry :crying: ). Yeah, it looks as if we turn a profit without IFE.

Your airline (if we knew which one it was) probably would turn a profit without IFE too... But your guys are to dumb and "luck" is not on their side.

So lets spend about 1 billion dollars on systems that are going to be out of
date by the time we install them onto all of our 420+ airplanes. Sounds like a great investment to me. You don't think our folks at Southwest have thought this stuff through? You think its "luck" that makes these decisions at SWA? What are you smoking?

When was the last strike YOU were in?

Guess again... last I checked places like YYZ, BOG, EGE, or maybe MEX kinda make it "out of the country" I live, how 'bout you? By the way sport...B757/B767 is junior equipment around here. We've got 2 month newbies who can hold it. Keep your comments relative to topics you're familiar with... and it's not Flag Ops.

Your flame is lame.
;)

I never said I was on strike. I use to fly out of the country too. But in the big picture, who the f**k cares? I don't... So you've been to Toronto...that is like being in another State.

This thread was never about me or you flying international, heck its was never about me claiming to be on strike. In my opinion, if a 2 month newbie can hold it, chances are it sucks. If its so great why are junior guys getting it?

You chose to defend a TOOL that took a cheap shot at Southwest. I claimed he might be a scab, then you attacked me will the above B S... Seems like your not even in this argument? So you go fly your international stuff, that the senior F/O s don't want and be happy. I'll be happy doing what I do, although I can no longer claim, I flew to Toronto. Which makes me sad...but I'll get over it.

Hey SWA/FO,

My brother. Do us all a favor. Vigorously defend the company........... while acting more like a professional. Your childish, obnoxious and rude comments are growing old. You can still be productive and debate and even attack without being a total jerk.

Gup

Thanks for the help Gup.

I am afraid that swa/fo acting like a professional would be just that. An act.

Flopgut said it best on post #96.
I tried but but I could not find one.

Thanks Joan.....You guys are hurting my feelings.... its not that hard. I have found one for you, this is even from this thread:

I think some airlines wait until the day of travel to assign emergency exit row seats.... That could be a good way to get your seat of choice.

Now that was really bad, huh? SWA/FO stands by what he types...:pimp:

How do you define luck? The best I've heard, LUCK is: When preparation meets opportunity. Makes sense.

Sorry, I'm not a major guy, if fact I don't even fly for an airline (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night). I started reading this thread because I'm an instuctor in DEN and with SWA coming to DEN, it interested me.

However, LUCK happens to be used, called, told or claimed like it's something that just happens because it happens. (Like something else we all know about!)

Let me explain. There's a CFI at my school that has been LUCKY. He's built his time, experience and multi very quickly and with quality. Everybody says he's been LUCKY. Why? Because he has something we want, but have not achived yet or as quickly.

However, he's quite prepared. He's a great instructor, very knowledgeable, professional and respectful. He also takes advantage of the opportunities that come his way.

LUCKY? Yes, but only because his preparation meets opportunity. Maybe SW has been LUCKY as well? I think so.

EDIT: One other thing, I think SWA/FO likes to be the Radier's fan at the Bronco game. He's just there to ruffle feathers and get under people's skin. Annoying, sure. Amusing...absolutely!

SWA/FO BRO. I'll go down swingin' with you cause that's what brothers do. But I'd at least like us to win the arguement with tact instead of name calling.

EPilot. Thanks for the levity. Those of us at (insert your favorite carrier) are indeed lucky. Some of us are even good :) Good luck in your career.

Gup

Gup, some of us did better in english then others... Why didn't you tactfully stand up when that scab mech took a cheap shot at us. Sure could have used your polite words, then.

You know how the PM system works here? I would have used it if I was calling you out...we are brothers after all, SWAPA forever!!!!

While most of SWA FO's coworkers wince at his need to enflame during his rants, we all must remind ourselves of some simple facts. There are those who have, and those who will......fill in the blank.

We in this industry are so quick to dole out criticism and point fingers, or just take pride in the hardships of another. We are no safer (in analogy only) than the 18 and 19 year old privates walking patrols in the city streets of Fallujah or Bahgdad. The economy is our insurgency, and the management is our IED. Taking our eye off the ball to criticize, ridicule, or pass judgement on another just put your foot on the tripwire linked to that cinderblock made of C-4 that the engineers(union leadership) missed on their sweep, then BOOM, your the one on the c17 to Germany. Those who have and those who will.....fill in the blank.

SWAFO, come down off the ridge brother. You arent making us look any better by defending attacks on this board with the ammo youre toting. Winning arguments with facts minus emotion is the only way to maintain class and honor in a world lacking both.

so how soon till SWA runs one off the end of a runway in Denver??

Did any of you politically correct type folks see this post? So when I respond to this guy, all of the sudden I'm a bad guy? After reading my replies to this "bad dude" and "inappropriate response" (to use different words) you guys have determined, I'm on top of the World, my @%^t doesn't stink? You guys could not be more wrong, becuase I'm not on top of the World and it stinks.

I wasn't even talking to you guys, it was to HIM. So I like to swear, who cares. Then you guys jump on me...WTFO.

I went to college!!! I'm the only 5-star super senior memeber of Flightinfo.com, show some respect. You guys need a hug or something? Whos next, tell me how far I will fall, how cocky I am, How I think I'm better then yall?

(Disclaimer: that "I went to college" is something from the Spongebob cartoon and in no way was that ment to hurt anybody's feeling.) :)

His statement will eventually revisit him. They always do. Giving a response is gratification to those who wish to enflame. Why feed the fire, unless you are one and the same? If you are, please pick a different company to represent.

You guys act like this is a PTL meeting.. We don't want to make anybody mad. What is this my 3 year old's play group? Is this like playing a game and not keeping score, so no one gets hurt?

If somebody says something that requires a response, one will be delivered. You guys don't have a problem giving me @#$t! What, are we running for political office here?

Buddy you really need another hobby. Pretty sad that it means nothing to you that your coworkers (who you think you are 'defending') are kindly telling you to stfu.

thanks...... dude. thanks for your support.

SWA FO: United does not want to hear about SWA. They don't know how to beat you because there is no way in hell they can. So naturally, you are gonna step on some once proud but now Bankrupt egos. Just keep firing back at them and to hell with their "feelings". This is business, not a social gathering.

Well, actually Chuck, for all of us except the Schadens, it IS a social gathering- kinda like one big family reunion. We have the doctors, the insurance salemen, the funny guys, the ladies, and of course, the brothers-in-law that are an unavoidable necessity.

I think I'm about to vomit. Yep...here it comes! :puke:

SWA/FO - I think it's great that you're so pumped about your company - SWA seems to be a successful and well-managed one, so your pride seems appropriate. However, please spare us your endless ranting about...well...nothing. Thank you, and have a nice day.

I kinda got excited there for a bit. Sorry about that. I still stand by everything I typed, as long as it makes sense.
