Just heard the rumor today:

Focus Air, (The upstart 747 ACMI outfit out of FLL) has signed a contract with Embry Riddle or one of those expensive pilot factories to have newbies start out at as 747 SO,s then a few months later move into the right seat.

Fast path to widebody international flying it is, all ya need is a line a credit or a rich daddy.

Not sure what the Focus Air cockpit crew members think about baby sitting young folks that should be out there teaching flying or hauling night-freight in Aztec,s.

I know exactly what they're thinking. Along those lines ,here's what they are saying..... "Do not touch anything without asking us first".

And when Focus starts flying MD-90's, Hupty-Diddle-Riddle should be able to supply them with current and qualified 172 drivers to fill that gap too.

Focus hasn't flown any trips yet and still have to fly their proving runs.

They are running classes and the first one was all check airmen, the second being a regular class, not sure of the dates.

I would have to feel sorry for a new hire off the street going to a SO position on the B747-200. He has a lot to learn and the training and checkride are tough. He is the busiest guy in the simulator.

Good Luck!

Well they must be having a hard time filling seats, because they keep dropping the mins on thier employment ads. Every one I had seen for them wanted 500 hours B747 Classic time. Now it just says "preferred".

Nah, don't think they have a hard time filling them seats.

They may have problems finding 747 people on the street looking for just this gig, OR gainfully employed 747 folks dying to jump ship over to a new-start-unknown-full-of-promises ACMI operation.

Therefore: They might as well get paid good money for filling seats.

A shame really...Let folks earn their way into the whale, not pay their way.

The same argument of course for the B-99s and the CAT B-727s.

Nuff said.

for anyone considering this outfit. They don't have approval from the FAA yet and it will still be a while as they have many quirks to work out. ALthough they are going to be a USA FLag/certified carrier the 747 will be strictly flying overseas doing contract flying. So that means all crews will be based overseas. The One 747 they have so far came from Atlas and was just D checked somewhere overseas and thats part of the delay getting all the paperwork in order....if you like to live overseas and fly heavies then this is the place for you...

You can't beat those pilots from "Empty Nipple." Those Focus Captains are going to have to watch those young tikes.....

Bye Bye--General Lee

I heard that the intern/ S/Os are coming from the ERAU CAPT program.

Hey Guppy

You must be a Riddle dork. And change your name and avatar, unless you are proud to fly that plane at slave wages.
