I'm pretty sure I wouldn't describe it as macho. The word 'stupid' comes to mind.

Here's my gripe with these guys and gals. I am liberal with the seatbelt sign, and most likely it is off if it is light chop or less. I'd prefer you deviate around the weather so I don't have to play, "finger 'F' the seatbelt sign" all flight long. There are probably passengers up in the lav, and for sure the FA(s) are up in the aisle. On my brief, I promised not to send them (FAs) into the ceiling because of weather, or your ********************ty navigating.

Also, take a look at your ground speed. Even in the POS CRJ we are probably doing close to 450-500 mph across the ground in cruise. It adds no more than a few minutes to deviate 15-20 miles off course to avoid the weather.

I also enjoy passengers saying they enjoyed the ride when they deplane. I usually don't hear those comments after we've spent the majority of the flight making sure the Continuous Ignition and TURB Buttons are selected.

What bothers me are the ppl that deviate around anything thicker than mist.

going around clouds, though they may be harmless, makes for a seemlessly smooth ride. Both your flight attendants and less than agile pax won't appreciate being knocked over by a quick light chop.

it's probably a good idea to paint the storms you can't see under you just in case you need to make an emergency descent.

Try walking around the back of your jet sometime in light turbulence caused by "only cirrus". Or better yet, put down the McPaper, crack open a book or your perf charts and re-educate yourself on coffin corner, high-and-low speed buffets, etc. If you're anywhere near your ceiling for either the jet or your weight 1.1 G is all it might take to send you lower ala Pinnacle.... dude.

And by the way, deviating around a large storm does not mean keeping your wing 10' clear of the buildup. You know who you are...
