AP source: United, US Airways in 'very advanced' combo talks
Monday April 28, 11:17 am ET
By Dave Carpenter, AP Business Writer Person close to negotiations tells AP that United, US Airways in 'very advanced' combo talks

CHICAGO (AP) -- A person close to the negotiations says United Airlines and US Airways are in very advanced talks with the expectation of announcing within two weeks that they are combining.
The two carriers have stepped up their talks after Continental Airlines Inc. caught United off guard by deciding not to pursue a deal with the Chicago-based carrier.
The source asked Monday not to be named because of the sensitive nature of the talks.
A United spokeswoman has not immediately responded to a request for comment.
A US Airways spokesman says the carrier does not comment on rumors or speculation about consolidation.

This just seems way too desperate to me. This is scary stuff from Tilton. It seems like he wants to merge with ANYONE. The CAL mgt team must have had some very good reasons to decide not to pursue this merger. USA is still finding it hard to make their last merger work. How will this help?

CNBC said Titlon was "Blind-Sided" Sunday when Continental walked away from the deal. Now just 22 hours later UAL is in advanced talks with LCC???

Its as if Tilton said..."Oh sh!t...what do I do now?"

Tilton wants his payday before the whole thing implodes. After that, he'll be sitting on the beach with a cold cocktail.

U and UAL are like two trains coming from opposite directions on the same track. You know how it's going to end.

The senior execs are like guys that set fire to their own businesses to get the insurance money. The biz is ruined and the employees out of a job, but they walk away with the cash.

Tilton knows if he isn't bought soon they will liquidated, they won't even go chapter 11 that is how dick up United is!

Tilton has utterly failed everyone, both the stockholders and the employees, yet he'll walk away with his pockets full.
