I'll give you one: the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution, for one:

Thanks to the ironically-named "Patriot Act," the government now has the power to do many things in direct violation of this amendment:

 • The FBI can now demand any papers and records about you held by a third party (like your bank), without a warrant, nor even reasonable suspicion of a crime, let alone the "Probable Cause" required by the fourth amendment.
 • A person or organization who has been required to turn over these records is prohibited from revealing that he did so, in direct violation of his first amendment rights.
 • A judge cannot overrule this breach of authority; he need only be notified of the search. This is significant, because it means you have no recourse against an illegal search. There are no checks and balances.
 • Visitors to this country can be detained indefinitely, without trial, based solely on the attorney general's word that he has "reasonable grounds to believe" the person endangers national security.
 • Numerous changes that allow wiretaps without (again) a warrant nor probable cause. The door has been opened again to the abuses of authority that were so pervasive in the 70's.
I know, I know. You have "nothing to hide"; they'd never spy on you. Right. Until you utilize your first amendment rights and say something controversial.

Are you comfortable having all your phone calls monitored by the government? All your internet traffic watched? I'm not. I'm not a criminal nor a terrorist, and I'm not willing to trade away my civil liberties to prove it. No real Patriot should.

I'm sure you are absolutelt terrified of the FBI storming your house to look for WMD, Chemical, biological agents, or Chickletts. Bet you sit in a darkened room looking down the street looking for the swat team to show up to take you away.

PPLLLLLLLEEEAAAASSSEEEEE. I could give a RATS A$$ if someone, you included, hear one of my boaring phonecalls to my wife asking what's for dinner.

You sound like you got your patriot act schooling from Bill Marr.

Since you regard wikipedia as a valid source, I suggest you look up "Misery Index" there. And next time, do some real research before you post here.

LOL! When you take out the highest and the lowest average (Carter and Eisenhower, respectively) since 1948 they line up directly from lowest to highest, Democrat to Republican...

Johnson...6.78
Kennedy...7.27
Clinton...7.8
Truman...7.87
Bush II...8.01
Nixon...9.98
Bush I...10.68
Reagan...12.19
Ford...15.93

Did you guys read the open skies 2 info in the last couple of Airline Pilot magazines. Honestly, if the GOP gets its way, we won't have jobs flying airliners anyway.

Think I'm being sensationalistic? Then you did not read what they are considering.

Saying that the number of people making over 75k has tripled in the last 20 years is completely useless.

75k is nothing today. 20 years ago, an upper middle class home cost 125-150k, a new luxury car was 25k, college, energy, food, everything was so much cheaper. Our salaries have barely cemp up with inflation. In fact many have not. Many have even decreased when measured against inflation. Sound familiar to anyone in this line of work?

I know one ocupation whose salary has beat inflation many times over though. Even at a time that most americans are not even keeping up with inflation. Sure is nice to be executives and in that top 5%.

Call me jealous. Fine. But how does that make any sense. Why should NW pilots take a 40% pay cut, only to watch "steal"land get millions in bonuses. Repeat this at several other airlines, at several other companies and in several other industries throughout the country and economy.

This is the republican philosophy. How many good jobs has this country lost because of incentives to transfer plants anywhere but here.

Job growth over the last several years had been offsetting these good jobs being lost. But the job growth was mainly in the hospitality sector. One of the worst paying sectors of the economy.

Many of you keep beating the taxes drum. How do you propose paying for this war that you guys love and this foreign dept that the repubs have amassed.

Taxes HAVE to go up. This is a big hole that we are in. There is no reason that this countries most fortunate, should not help bail this country out of the mess their own party has got us into.

Oh, and stop misrepresenting the tax increases. The tax examples in a previous post include tax increases all the way down to the lowest income levels. We all know that both candidates have stated that they would exclude those of moderate and low incomes.

Hahahahaha...

No, I'm not worried about stormtroopers knocking down my door. But I do have a real concern about the U.S. government spying on its own citizens in violation of the constitution they swore to uphold.

I know, I know... "Stop throwing the Constitution in my face... It's just a goddamned piece of paper!" That's how our wonderful president sees it.

Your logic is SNAFU

Transportation Disruption.- Ther term "transportation disruption" means any significant delay, interruption, or stoppage in the flow of trade caused by natural disaster, labor dispute, hightened threat level, an act of terrorism, or any transportation security incident definded in section 70101(6) of title 46, United States Code.

Wow! So if labor was to conduct a strike the US gov't would equate that to an act of terrorism. Nice precedence for us Air Line Pilots.

YOU are the only one comparing a labor dispute to an act of terrrorism. These different things are all classified as "Transportation disruptions". Did you forget how to read and think...or was it too inconvenient in your rush to make your political point?

That's completely false. One is going to raise taxes on the super-rich while protecting the middle-class (that's you and me), and the other is going to completely rape the lower- and middle-class to benefit his super-rich buddies.

I can't believe that you are gullible enough to believe that "super rich" crap. I gave you credit for being smarter than that.

As long as one doesn't give in to the fear that pushed like a drug.........

I'd rather have a labor freindly gov't that allows me to negotiate fairly and raise my wages than another four years of regression:

Labor friendly gov't allows me to negotiate a 50-100% pay increase. And "risking" a 10-15% tax increase, even if it get to the middle class.

Or

Four more years of labor tyrrany:

10% pay cut as inflation and gov't strangle my career.

100% paycut for the pilots in the next 5 years who are going to get furloughed... Its already happening under the current gov't. Aloha, ATA, Champion, etc...

So if Obama/Hillary wins, we will get 50-100% raises. If McCain wins, we will get furloughed. I did not know that.

To expand on this logic, I'm making more money than ever with the best career prospects I've had in my life. Guess that President Bush and then McCain are my best bets for continued prosperity!

Until it comes time to pay for another old white guy's 100 year occupation of a sovereign nation halfway around the world.

Will mCcain keep us safe from stem cells too? Will his cabinet be filled with Reaganesque wheelchair-bound gummers like the present administration?

I'm sure things will be just as 'good' as they are now when the Arizona Ayatollah is annointed National Premier by the Supremes sometime in December of this year. At least I'll be able to ride on Air Tajikistan from Boston to Miami. Yeah...things are gonna be great!

I missed that list of individual freedoms you've lost over the past 8 years. What is the oppression you've suffered?

I think a previous poster went into some detail on that.

The danger isn't that you or I have been oppressed, it is that the government now claims the RIGHT to "oppress" us in many situations. I don't know how to make it more clear: The Constitution gives us many rights and freedoms (inalienable), while those in power now say those rights can simply be taken away when they choose.
They really say that, I'm not exagerating.

Do you like the Right to Bear Arms? I do. If you value the Second Amendment, then you better value the First, and the Fourth, and all the others that are being ignored. If those don't matter, then none of them do.

I'm a liberal, but many conservatives and independents think this way too. It isn't a dem versus republican thing. See, a democrat and a republican both agree that the Constitution is critical, although they may disagree on how to interpret it.
But there are people in power, today, who don't think the Constitution is important, and that the Unitary Executive makes the rules.
Look it up, school is over.

If you're not happy here, feel free to leave.

You may find the "freedom" available in other countries more to your liking.

May I suggest you start in China?

I'm not a coward, so I'd rather stay and fight for my freedoms. I already turned town an airline job in China, although it would pay a lot better, and offer more days off, and more job security, and millions of hot petite submissive women........

I lost track there, what were we talking about again?

I can't believe that you are gullible enough to believe that "super rich" crap. I gave you credit for being smarter than that.
How would you classify executives that make hundreds of times more than their average employees?

Wow...now people who don't want their bodies pumped up with drugs and their food covered with insecticide are Nazi's!! That's rich.

Go back and read it again, you aren't even close to understanding what the passage was about...

I thought all major airline pilots were rich? Maybe not any longer? I will vote for McCain because I want the lower and middle class to pay some taxes. I paid $85K in federal taxes alone this year. I am paying too much and the middle class is not paying their fair share!

I also want cabotage! If it means cheaper airline tickets for the masses then so what? That is good for the economy overall. Maybe Wal-Mart will start a discount airline with Chinease pilots and Swedish FA's flying Canadian aircraft?

All we really need to help our economy is airlines buying US made aircraft. Who flys them is not even a drop in the bucket.

Actually that was the Draft. The pro labor efforts, lead by Kennedy had the verbage removed. It was a big deal, but not broadcast to the pilots becuase this was a Port Security Draft...

The danger is in the precedence it would have set.

Back to McCain. Recall CESTA? McCain Lott Baseball style arbitration?

<H2>
“BASEBALL-STYLE” ARBITRATION

During the 107th Congress, Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Conrad Burns (R-MT) and Trent Lott (R-MS) introduced legislation to reform the Railway labor Act and impose mandatory compulsory arbitration, in airline labor-management bargaining disputes. Although Senator McCain has not introduced this legislation in the 108th Congress, the Communities for Economic Strength Through Aviation, a lobbying group known as CESTA, is actively lobbying Congress to derail the Railway Labor Act.

CESTA is being funded by the Air Transport Association and several major carriers and is headed by former Republican Congresswoman Susan Molinari. At a time when airlines are bleeding money, laying off thousands of employees and asking their employees for billions in concessions, CESTA’s campaign is a gross misallocation of funds.

CESTA has demonstrated that nothing is out of bounds when trying to promote their agenda. They have gone as far as saying that they support the Railway Labor Act – and this could not be further form the truth. Their proposals would destroy decades of fair labor-management negotiations under the Railway Labor Act and tilt our negotiations process in managements’ favor.

Um....a bunch of out of context generalizations that aren't even connected into a common thought, good work on finding that gem. Maybe next time you want to make a point that people will actually consider, use something that hasn't so obviously been twisted to fit an agenda.

Take your Prozac dude. I've never heard so much bulsheet in one post....not even mine!

Thanks for the tip new guy! Welcome to the forum...it gets worse here every day.

Any self respecting professional airline pilot that want's to try and protect his job, his job security, and the general welfare of his family that votes for McCain and "if" (lets pray it isn't so) he eventually wins the presidency better not post one f*ing bitch or complaint about his loss of wages, benefits, or loss of profession to a cheaper foreigner.

McCain is all for it and all I am going to have to say in the future is "You made your bed, now sleep in it."

Yeah, who cares if us "Airline" pilots all lose are jobs! You want cabotage for YOUR own benefit.

What a tool.
