O.K. here goes. I know you prefer the west coast but the white mountain
area in NH is beautiful. Lots of lakes and the scenery is breathtaking.

Cortez, CO. Nice big lake, Mcphee reservoir, or Lake Powell is only 2 hours away. Also only 80 miles from Telluride and Durango mt. for skiing. Also try Montrose, CO also not to far from Telluride and has a nice size lake.

Cortez and Montrose are (or at least they used to be) still reasonable. I lived in Durango for some time and while it is without a doubt a much nicer town than the other two it is more expensive. It is beautiful country in SW CO and not too many people. Good outdoor activities all year round. Cortez is more in the desert and Montrose in more mountainous.

If you wanted to live in the East, check out Jamestown, NY. It's on Chautauqua lake and is very close to Holiday Valley ski resort. It's not anything like skiing out west but its not bad for the east coast. I'm not sure about the humidity. It's less than an hour from Albany, NY.

Jamestown NY is about 4 hours from Albany. Everything else is right on.
