Man made global warming is a scam to remove your money from your wallet and to increase control over you while destroying the US economy.

Man made global warming is a scam to remove your money from your wallet and to increase control over you while destroying the US economy.

Keep believing that.

And given that the U.S. "man" you refer to seems to produce 1/3rd of all the CO2 on the planet, perhaps those of us in the U.S. should do something about it, man.

Cheers,

SCR

Ok you can start by quitting aviation.......... ;)

Why should we do something about a non-pollutant, that all life depends on, that is almost exclusively naturally occurring?

========================================
CO2 is essential for all life on earth. Without CO2 no plants will survive, thus no food and no oxygen for all us and all animals.

Atmospheric CO2 levels were much higher in prehistoric times. The current levels of atmospheric CO2 allow plants to grow larger and thus produce more food for us compared to 500 years ago.

Of all the CO2 produced, man made CO2 is 0.116 %. If you include all greenhouse gasses, man’s contribution is 0.28%.

The most common greenhouse gas is water vapor not CO2.

======================================
Climate is always changing!
The earth is warming, the warming started in the mid 1700’s, long before CO2 levels increased from the industrial revolution.

During the 1100’s which is known as the “medieval warm period” the earth was warmer than now. The Vikings were grazing cattle in southern Greenland. They had to leave by the 1400’s because the temperatures had cooled so much.

The temperature continued to cool into “the little ice age”. During the coldest part of this cool period sunspot activity was almost nonexistent. The Hudson River would freeze during colder winters in the little ice age allowing people to walk from New York to Staten Island.

Since the 1700’s sunspot activity has increased. The increased sunspot activity equates to a brighter or stronger sun. The stronger sun reduces cloud formation in the upper atmosphere allowing the earth to warm.

=====================================
If man made CO2 levels are causing global warming why did the earth cool for about 40 years from the 1940’s to the late 1970’s while atmospheric CO2 continued to increase?

What about instrument error? Urban areas with growing populations have warmed since the 1940’s but rural areas have not.

====================================

Next time you fly you can calculate the amount of CO2 you produce by multiplying the pounds of jet-A burned by 3.15 to get the pounds of CO2 produced.

If you’re driving you produce 20 pounds of CO2 for every gallon of gasoline burned.

So the world's still flat? Sweet.

Liberal or conservative, go watch "An Inconvenient Truth." All myths debunked.

Or as Neil Young said: "Got a man of the people, says 'Keep hope alive.' Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive..."

LOL...........you trust Gore?!.........
Hilarious.........

I am going to buy another SUV just for spite :)

Liberal or conservative, go watch "An Inconvenient Truth." All myths debunked.

Please, if you are interested in this topic read both sides of the view and you will see that Gore's movie is not "settled science". Many scientists disagree with much of what Gore says and many agree, but it is certainly NOT "settled science".

If you look at the huge relationship chart that Gore tries to prove his point that a CO2 increase causes an increase in climate temperature you will see that even his graph shows CO2 lags temperature in change. You can make a compelling argument that temperature affects CO2 content. The main point is that Gore and the extremists want you to believe that man causes global warming and don't even think about any other point.

Open your mind and don't be a hand puppet.

My solution: Drill for oil in Alaska and off of our shores while developing alternate energies and increasing conservation. Why can't we do more than one thing at a time?

I am starting a company that sells carbon offsets. If you send me $20.00 I will register you in my data base. Then in the future you can apply for an offset from my company and I will calculate the cost ($100.00- $1,000,000.00) for you I will then, upon receipt of your payment feed a cow a new formula feed that doesn't cause gas. It will reduce methane gas in the atmosphere by .0000000000000000001 percent. Methane not carbon is the true global killer.

"STL717...a 'Mr. Galileo' on line two!"

Even into the 70's there were doctors insisting cigarette smoking wasn't harmful. As short as two years ago, Dr. Bill Frist was diagnosing Terri Schiavo as "responsive" via video tape, from the floor of the US Senate.

In the case of both of those "scientists" the final result indicates they mighta been wrong.

You can still claim otherwise. Build that soapbox real high so that when you fall the pain will be brief...and the conclusion, certain.

Maybe Gore should follow his own advice...

From the Tennessee Policy:

Al Gore’s Personal Energy Use Is His Own “Inconvenient Truth”
Gore’s home uses more than 20 times the national average

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

When you mix science with politics your predictions and theories will never be accurate because rather than approaching the problem with an open mind you tend to have the solution made up before the problem has been properly identified. Why has this become a left vs right issue?

Everything wrong with this world is not the fault of the USA.

Open your mind, put down the Gore book and THINK!

There is far more CO2 given off naturally than any humans' produce, combined. But people like Gore don't really want to talk about that. Humans make up less than 5 percent of ALL carbon dioxide output. The majority of it comes from things like volcanos. What does Mr. Gore purposed to do about this huge source. It's BS.

Carbon Offsets are an absolute Scam so people cn feel good without changing anything.

How many of these people who buy carbon offsets drive SUV's, or have 12000 sq ft houses (AlGORE) or fly private jets(AL GORE) or drink bottled water instead of tap. all that is easily changed bevaior that isn't, cause someone thinks Carbon Offsets actually count for something.

Yes, Al Gore and Neil Young are definitely the sages I would turn to for a definitive answer on this subject. Perhaps you should consult Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda for some advice on the war in Iraq.

Yeah! You tell him.

And Algore [sic] is probably producing at least 1/8 of the total CO2 emissions just on the energy it takes to keep up that compound he so humbly calls home. Him and all the cows. Did you know that cow flatulence contributes quite significantly to greenhouse gasses? I guess that's different though.

Ever wonder what caused the last ice age? I mean, it obviously wasn't a man-made event, since we didn't exist yet. All that historically proven climate change over time, and no people to be found in the equation.

Hmmmm.... perhaps this global warmimg thing isn't all what it's cracked up to be. Doh!

...and your going to listen to airline pilots opinions on global warming?
It's pretty much unanimous among people much more qualified than any of us that global warming is a problem.

oh come on

I don't usually respond to this type of thread, considering this is an aviation forum, but I can't resist...

...and your going to listen to airline pilots opinions on global warming?
It's pretty much unanimous among people much more qualified than any of us that global warming is a problem.

Pretty much unanimous? And who would this unified and highly educated group be comprised of, exactly? Algore? Bono? Sean Penn???

Global warming will be a problem for everyone, eventually, I am sure. It would also be a problem if a meteor suddenly crashed into the earth. Both aforementioned occurences are probably about as likely to be affected significantly one way or another by our little adventures, IMHO. The jury is out, however, as to the cause of climate change (past, present or future), and certainly this "global warming" trend (scare language for the term "climate change") is nothing that hasn't happened before, and likely will continue to happen over and over again. Who ever said that the climate was a static thing?

I have yet to hear a scientific PROOF (read: NOT theory), backed up by facts and data, that states: a) that global warming is both the cause of humans and that b) it can definitely be fixed by human intervention.

As to your question about asking the uneducated masses known as pilots - start a freaking tree-hugger forum if you don't like hearing from us! This board is not "save the rainforest and elect Algore GOD" - it's a freaking aviaton board!

Let me explain this. We burn Fossil Fuels into CO2 and H2O. CO2 falls to earth and is absorbed by plants, which is then turned into sugar for the plant. The plant dies and turns into crude oil again someday. So think of JetA as plant food.

Global Warming (from manmade causes) is a fraud!!!! It's a communist/socialist trick to hinder the US economy. Al Gore either knows this or he's really stupid!!!! Maybe he thinks he's GOD? Al Gore is an enemy of the US and should be thrown into Guantanamo.

The earth is not a living organism, it has living organism on it, but rocks don't contain DNA.

The earth has heated and cooled since the beginning--way before the industrial evolution. The sun is not a glowing ball in the heavens that outputs the same energy forever.

Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/02/070228-mars-warming.html

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory. Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.
In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

a friend of mine who is a geology professor read about NASA's new study, which was just released, showing the temperature on mars has been rising .6 or .7 degrees per year. I think we should stop sending our probes to mars considering we are causing global warming there too.

What troubles me about the Global Warming...er, excuse me, "Man Made Climate Change" (changed from global warming when proof about natural cycles of warming and cooling were presented) issue is when debate or discussion is not only stifled, but prevented.

No fair hearing is given to those with conflicting research on climate change by the media or GW/CC proponents. That scares me.

Also frightening is the fact that the topic has been declared closed by that bastion of truth and free speech--The United Nations. I'm sure we can rely on them for an unbiased study of this topic.

The data that the GW/CC crowd is relying on is derived from "Seth" wandering out to his outhouse in 1827 (and subsequent years) with a candle taking a temperature reading from the highest tech thermometer at the time while taking a dump. Adequate at the time but inadequate to cause me to leap off the GW/CC cliff.

Before I vote to wreck the economy of this country and seriously damage my personal financial status (we middle class folks will be devastated by fines levied against our un-green houses and lifestyles while the rich will just buy carbon offsets--after making millions in the Carbon Offset commodity exchange, and continue to fly their G's and drive their Bently's unburdened by a guilty conscience) I'm going to need to see some pretty convincing data from a source other than that bent on the subjugation of this country (the U.N.).

Additionally, NOTHING we do to reduce pollution in this country and Western Europe can offset the destructive industrialization of India and China. They were virtually untouched by the draconian "suggestions" of the Kyoto Treaty. The Guangzhou area in China will soon be virtually uninhabitable by any organism due to polluted water and air.

Dear China, India and Africa: You first. TC

If Al Gore were really serious about getting his message out, he would not have charged $7 to see his movie. He is trying to scare your money out of your wallet.

P.S. What is so bad about a greenhouse??? Stuff grows in there!
