If I could hijack the arguing and flaming back to the original topic (note heavy sarcasm: let's stop chewing on each other!) I got an email from the MEC that said part of the 'final' offer from Airtran included preferential interviews, yet no one has been discussing it. Did anyone else hear that? Whaddya think?

HarleyGuy,
From what I read, there are 2 different preferential interviews being offered. 1 from Airtran included in the deal with them. The 2nd from ATA (via C8) for the new positions created as a result of the new RJ's they will recieve as part of the "new ATA" plan. I would assume the Airtran Interviews would help with the first 100-200 guys furloughed as they would get the first shot if they wish to go there since they will be furloughed beginning in Jan.

According to what we were given, the only preferential interviews to Airtran are for guys that actually live in Chicago. Its a Daily thing. The rest of us are own our own. No big deal though, if a company wants me they will hire me, Its as simple as that. However on the other hand the C8 deal is bull**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**, it is our own feeder that ATA Holdings owns, and they can't even give us a first shot at an FO seat in a SAAB or RJ. Now thats just sticking it to us as a pilot group by George.

Feeling NO LOVE

I would like to remind those of you who are hoping for the ATA/AWA deal over the ATA/AirTran deal that AirTran was the only company after September 11 to take voluntary pay cuts so that no pilot, including the new hires that had started on September 10, would be furloughed. Wouldn't you prefer being a part of a pilot group with that kind of loyalty?

I know that ATA's future is uncertain and no one wants to start at the bottom of a seniority list again, but our projected hiring for the next five years is roughly 1,000 pilots.

Good luck ATA. I have a few friends over there.

EMPLOYEE MATTERS

Without undertaking any obligation to hire any employee or group of employees of Sellers, to the extent practical and consistent with its hiring needs and standards, AirTran agrees to undertake good faith efforts to employ individual qualified existing employees of Sellers resident in Chicago as new employees of AirTran. In furtherance of and subject to the foregoing, AirTran (i) presently expects that at such time as all of its services and flight schedules from the Midway Gates are operated with its own aircraft the number of full and part-time jobs required to perform the airside and landside operations at the Midway Gates will be substantially the same as the number of such jobs in place as of the Execution Date, subject to normal seasonal adjustment; (ii) intends to make good faith efforts to itself, or through third party vendors, provide preferential hiring consideration for such jobs to current, active individual employees of Seller, resident in Chicago, presently working in such positions at Midway; (iii) expects that it will, and will endeavor to require any third party vendors to, make job applications and/or interviews available to current, active employees of Seller and conduct or cause to be conducted job fairs or other similar opportunities for applications to be made for such available positions; (iv) believes that the current work experience of such active employees of Seller will be an important consideration in evaluating all such employees; and (v) currently intends also to give preferential hiring consideration on the same basis set out above to current, actively employed Midway based mechanics, flight and in-flight personnel, resident in Chicago, for Chicago based mechanic, flight and in-flight positions. It is contemplated that, with respect to all such positions set out in the preceding sentences, preferential hiring consideration will continue for a period of one-year after the Execution Date.
Strange to include a requirement for residence in Chiacgo as a condition of possible employment.

Wow, it's really upsetting to me to see how things are playing out. I wish the best to the pilots of ATA and all the great guys and gals at C8 that I used to fly with. I hope everything works out in everyone's favor here.

I'd like to remind YOU sir, America West was one of the airlines to furlough the least amount of pilots (98 I believe). And in one year's time, they were ALL back on property.

Hey guys,

What is the deal with that "Chicago residents" hiring preference? What about the guys that live in Valpo or Aurora etc. I wonder about that. I guess it will be interesting to see what happens on Dec. 16th. I'm just standing on the bridge of the Titanic looking for a lifeboat.

As far as "Megadeth's" comments are concerned. I mean ...dude...are you serious with your "ATA guys are too good to fly Saab's" comment? I don't mean any disrespect , but are you for real? I'm sorry, but guys that have flown L1011's around the world aren't exactly looking to swing gear on turbo-props. I don't even know why I am typing this because it is obvious...I'm sure you know this. Your mockery of Jettypeguy was a bit off side and quite misplaced.

Now I need a beer.

Yeah, well our CEO once navigated a boardless, rudderless corporation through the rocky Straits of Magellan, armed with nothing more than a rusty letter-opener, a vowel, and a handful of tax credits that he won the night before in a game of blackjack.

ATA,

It seems to me that they are looking out for their "unemployment costs" for the city (or state) in general. The last thing they want is people defaulting on homes, getting food stamps and health care in Chicago. That takes away from their tax base. Further, as many of you know, Daley is a democrat and Chicago is a very democratic city. So, he is going to do what is best for his voters.

Just my two cents,

Kathy
