It is because of these undesirable working conditions and pay that I oppose the union. The union is why you have these problems. The union is not the answer, and the proof is that the same management treats us very well, because we have a good attitude and do NOT belong to a union. Most of us at NJI feel you would be treated the same way as we are if you dump the Teamsters.
By the way, we discuss these issues all the time in the cockpit, and so far in 5 years I have found two pilots, and heard about one more, who have positive feelings about the union, and we all are hoping for good things for you guys. I talk a lot with NJA folks on the road, and enjoy the discussions very much. Your pay is awful, and we hope things get much better. With the Teamsters keeping everything adversarial, we don't see good things happening, however. Good luck, though.

If there was no union at Netjets the schedule would slowly become 6 on, 3 off, and the abysmmal pay would remain. If you have a place like Citation Shares or Jetblue where the management has character and leads by example then maybe not having a union is more acceptable. I can assure you that NJA isn't one of those places.

G-4,
The former MEC was by no means "adversarial". They caved to managment on every issue, giving away huge bargaining chips for over three years.

SU has accomplished more in five months than the fab five did in five years. Yes, they have drawn lines in the sand, but it is the company that has to meet us half way. Up to this point they have not shown they are willing to do that. They have expected us to LOA issues like the former regime did on a continual basis.

It's not like we are asking for the moon. Just a wage commensurate with the industry. As mentioned in a previous post, are the G's being paid industry average? It sure sounds like you are being treated very well on the road. Maybe it's easier to overlook pay when QOL issues outweigh pay?

Look I work at a non unionized fractional. It is not perfect but we have a voice and it is responded to. I can call upper management on any given day and voice my opinion. It has always been responded to. The Teamsters have made several attempts to unionize us. They have failed to destroy our company. I bump into NetJet pilots on a dailly basis and non have anything nice to say about the Teamsters. Please be careful the proponents on this chat room are the union reps who want your dues.

Jolimon....if you work for a small outfit you have the option of going to upper management and hash things out....It used to be like that here at NJA years ago...even with the Union on the property. With 2100 pilots spread throughout the country flying for a multi-billion dolar empire...Berkshire Hathaway...you need some teeth to get things done...

Unfortunately our former MEC had their teeth knoocked out by management now we have some real fighting blood in there representing us....and all fractional for that matter. I've heard so many times by the other leaing fraction pilots on how their pay will go up once NJA gets a raise..... they are watching this very closely as well....

Wait until the contract is signed before you condemn our Union.....who knows, maybe after if comes out you may want to put an application in.

And before you say it....I am NOT a Union rep... I am represented by a Union...Loal 1108.

Jolimon,

I'm happy it's working out for you. I hope your company grows by leaps and bounds and gives prospective owners a real option in the fractional experience. Competition is a VERY GOOD thing in this industry.

I think your being short sighted with blanket statements like "netjets pilots have nothing good to say about the teamsters". We overwhelmingly voted down a bad TA and voted in a new MEC. That looks like good support to me. I agree they are not the end all be all, but they have political muscle and resources that we need right now.

We have our own local now and maybe somewhere down the road, we may decide to head out on our own. That remains to be seen.

I ran into 6 of your pilots in a hotel lobby near TEB. They asked me if we were hiring. I said yeah but what about the paycut? They did not care. Thats how great your nonunion shop is working out for some of them. One pilot said management was destroying your company and he did not believe you would still be in business in 12 months.

Why do you need to lie? Our pilots have never stayed in a hotel in or near Teterboro. It is sad that you resort to this. Members of the teamsters your union rep just got caught in an absolute lie. Typical union nonsense if the truth doesn't work out for you just make up a lie.

by the way I am one of the pilots who just flies the line, have been for almost a year. I couldn't be happier. I don't always agree with management but they do respond to my concerns and understand the hard work we put in on the line. I am very good friends with a large number of the pilots who fly with me and there is great camaraderie. Please don't just make crap up it doesn't help your cause it just supports the nonunion position.

 How could a group of fractional pilots not stay in or near TEB? That is like saying strippers do not smoke.

Our Hotel deal is at a hotel by Caldwell Airport when we fly in or near NY and overnight. I work for Avantair the Piaggio Avanti fractional operator. So far it has been a great place to work. The CEO is totally approachable and routinely asks for input from line guys like me. The work schedule had been hard for a while but just keeps getting better and the airplane is a lot of fun to fly. I can't say I am always happy but it is the best job I have had and yes I have flown for another fractional. I think (just my opinion and I could turn out to be wrong) they are committed to keeping the pilots happy. The CEO started the company by flying the line. SO far so good just hope it continues to improve as it has. The growth has been incredible everytime I turn around I am flying a new owner and new airplanes are on the line all the time. Once again this is just the way it has been so far. I am holding out hope that it continues and there is no reason to believe it won't. I hope the NetJet situation works for you guys but I just can't stand the lies that are posted to support the union. At my last job the union really screwed us up and we never got what we were looking for.

Well...good luck to you and all yours over there. Just be careful about the NetJets Union stuff.....Things are very strained...though extremely united around here and I'm not sure that you have the full picture of what is actually going on. I understand having a bad taste from an prior Union experience...believe me...if there is anyone with a bad taste from that its the NetJet guys. That's why we are so united right now....things have truely turned around here and support on the line is tremendous.

Fly Safe....
