On a more controversial note. I agree with Waves take on widebody pay. I think the fair thing is to pay by seat and not A/C. I'm a widebody Captain and would have no problem with no equipment differential. It would be fairer to pay all Captains the same and the gain for pilots could be in turn more increases for longevity. We stop longevity increases at 12 years, I think that's pretty standard in the industry? Why not increase longevity pay with the savings of having one payscale per seat.
I know it will never happen in ALPA, but frankly, if anyone would be in a position to do it, I would think SWA would if they got larger A/C.

Increase an already elitist pyramid scheme pay scale? What we need are fewer steps to top pay, not more, not longer.

Well I am not that surprised, it's too ingrained in the airline pilot culture. But like I said, I wonder if the savings from having one pay scale could be converted into greater longevity pay for all. I know, pipe dream, but it's a thought.

Good. I'm younger than you, and senior to you. I didn't read the rest. I don't care about the wide body pay now. That single fact has made me so happy that you can have a blended pay rate.

I'm sure it did, but there's lots of guys senior to me that are younger than me- lots.

I know you're trying to be a d-ck for kicks, but if you ever care to wonder why no SWA pilot feels bad about your perceived bad SLI- it's bc it wasn't.

Air tran was such a sh/t job comparatively, somebody like you could get it super young- SWA took years longer on average- and here we are.

As for me personally- I made my bed- went to a legacy first and took some time for me to set my priorities. I was pretty motivated, but needed to get kicked in the nuts a bit by the industry before I figured out SWA was for me.

And it still is, regardless of you being senior to me. I love this job and hope you grow to love it too.

That's why I preach it. Most airline's pilot groups give up $millions bc we can fly jets but can't wrap our head around the time value of money

How many training events occur bc pilots are chasing the carrot? At one point is it more valuable to stay at one rate ?

Newsflash- It was a lot harder to get on with UAL and AMR these past ten years than it was to get on with SWA. That doesn't mean they were "better jobs".

A "better job" to you doesn't necessarily mean the same thing to someone else.

My "sh/t job", as you put it, allowed me to fly as a mid-seniority CA, flying easy, commutable schedules with plenty of time off, and while it wasn't the top pay in the Industry, I wouldn't have voluntarily traded places with you, or someone a few years senior to you.

Ty buddy, your a professional airline pilot, you got traded...you know how the game works...great union gig but not always fair and certainly not a meritocracy..maybe u are independently wealthy, and/or have a side business and this gig is just a cool part time job, but for the vast majority of your colleagues they are in this for the $$, and at the end of the day, stable, well run SWA's decision to buy AAI (vs lets say a UAL or DL) will be the best thing that ever happened in their career...

You said that it took longer to get a job at SWA, preceded by the fact that there are "lots" younger and senior to you. It's a fallacy - Held close to your wax covered, razor burned chest, in order to keep you warm at night. SWA hired a guy with 700 hours in 2000. Ex firefighter and everything you could hope to be. Now a SWA check airmen. A great person.

Oh, he's senior to both of us.
