5 jets is 55 newhires. I don't want to start a riot but I'd guess less than 100 newhires this year. I've seen 180 posted from the union but I just don't see how the math works.

Sucks for all involved.

That is one heck of a bubble list. Good luck! Hopefully, it is only a temp slow down and not a regression.
 
I feel for you guys/gals in the pool. Been there and done that (2yrs and 2mos). All I can say is, it may take you you a while to get here but once you are on the property it will be worth it. This is my only airline experience but I can tell you I have found it to be every bit as enjoyable as my military flying and much more lucrative. Keep smiling and I hope you are on board soon but don't worry SWA will get you here sooner or later.

How long ago was that 2yrs and 2mos?
 
In the pool March of '02 and on the property May of '04.
 
Don't have to tell me that twice! Been down that road aleady! 100M that's great. It will be worth the wait to fly for a company with a real management team and not just a bunch of well dressed theifs there to pump their stock options an get out with their bags of money!

From the earnings conference call today, 29 aircraft deliveries with 22 aircraft lease returns/aircraft sales for a net aircraft increase of 7 for 2008. The part I couldn't believe was that most of the 22 returns/sales are 737-700's. I would have though the older -300's would have been gone, but I guess the -700's have more release/resale value around the world.

I wouldn't see how 7 aircraft would need 180 more pilots, but there probably is a little attrition to Fedex/UPS and a few retirements/medical outs.

Supposedly sold the two "Ford" Airplanes for a profit (although they are still online as of 1/22), Cost more to convert them to SW config then what they made on the open market! It's called "Smart Money"

From what a Mech recently told me SWA started a new maintenance program. This new program required 7 less aircraft to be going through the maintenance cycle at any one time. So this is the gets 7 more aircraft available for flying. So 7 less aircraft in maintenance and 7 new aircraft means you have to crew 14 more airplanes.

There were about 250 people in the pool back then, many of them were well over 2 years waiting for a class date (I was 26 months as well).

Age 65 was our latest 911, you've got to keep all of your options because your wait could easily end up being just as long.

Well I am at a good job now, but WN has always been my goal. Are you at FDX or SWA?
 
FedEx. My fallback plan became my primary plan, and I had too much invested here to go once the call for the class finally came. Very tough decision, I'll let you know in 13 (ah crud, now maybe 18) years how it turns out.

I bet it was a tough decision. I just hope the PD dosen't put some of the retired guys in front of the poolies. It would be like, ''Where's the LUV man!''

I thought that was a done deal. I thought they were going to the front of the line. I wouldn't sweat it though. 4 or 5 years from now you'll get a seniority bump (if they haven't changed the age to 70).

realism is in short supply on this thread (with the exception of Tanker Clown, who seems to be dead on).

"As of now, the Company would like to select successful interviewees and consolidate them into one or two classes. The retired pilots are moving to the front of the line for interviews and hiring based on our conversations with Flight Ops. You’re probably asking what SWAPA’s position is. Hiring is none of our business but we have stated several times that we would like to see the best new hire pilots that the market has to offer."
