I'm sure he got his information from someone in the training department building. Give yourself 30 minutes and you'll hear the status of the company 30 diffrent ways.

Take it for what it's worth which isn't much.

Hey Guys,

This is a b!tch board, right? If my fellow WNers don't see the dramatic changes in our "Golden Rule" then you have your heads firmly in the sand. My earlier statements are directed squarley towards Dallas. They seem to have a wish to destroy the positive attitudes that built our reputation.

This is my third airline. I've flown the 5 on 2 off with 9 days off a month.

As far as the just sign up for the jumpseat and preboard crowd, try commuting. I was the third to sign up a couple weeks ago. I was the only WN pilot and the only "jumpseater" that didn't get to preboard. It pissed me off.

To the poolies. This place doesn't suck, it just isn't as fun as it was in years past. What is the root? I don't know. Is it as bad as other places? Can't say cause I don't work other places but it still seems we are as friendly and helpful as any.

My goal is to show up on time, treat my customers well and be polite and caring toward my coworkers. That's all I can do. I just hope there are enough caring fun people around to carry us past this quicksand we seem to be in.

Sorry for unloading guys but sometimes you just need to let it out.

Gup

.....ok that's nice. But let's get back to purpose of this thread. Any useful info on this latest rumor of no classes until the 2nd quarter would be great. I was all geared up for a phone call this week.

Hey Guys,

This is my third airline. I've flown the 5 on 2 off with 9 days off a month.

Gup,

Our j/s policy is still the best in the business. Remember, these changes are not put in place to make your life tough. This is a business trying to make money. Plain and simple. And yes, I do commute. You stated that you've been at SWA for 8 years? Try to remember what 8 years would have gotten you anywhere else. I too was hired at a major 8 years ago. Want to compare notes?

Save the doom and gloom for the prune.

Dude, no classes until the second quarter? Consider the source. This is from the guy who is going to get to SWA through the backdoor by going to Airtran.

Man....I just want to work at SWA. What's wrong with that? The Tranny might still be an option.

Don't know what to tell you about the no class 'till the second quater rumor. Looks like they are parking 6 jets before they aquire one...so, don't know what to tell you.

They are parking 15 -300s but they are taking delivery of all 34 -700s still. The net gain is 19 new aircraft.

Read the press releases, this isn't new information.

I'm not so sure things are that great there.

it seems like the same 5-10 guys recycling backwashed kool-aid day after day on all the SWA threads.

although i'm sure that blueandwhite buffoon would love another glassful of backwashed kool-aid.

Why all the cynicism jke?

SLC

Yes, which makes it subject to change. I thought that training booked classes a month out, and if the calls haven't started for a January class, then who knows. Fingers crossed for ya poolies...

Funny. Friend of mine had a chat with the PHX chief and he stated that 3 classes of 24 in Jan, 4 in Feb of 20 and 3 in March of 20. Said we are short FO's.

Again, nobody knows what is going on with classes and when.

Gup, while I hear what your saying and understand your concerns, maybe a new thread would be better or take it to Pprune.

Sorry 328, that would be too logical. Tanker Clown runs the show around here and he says no more classes until second quarter!

Ha.

Tanker Clown--We dont want any of your tainted information--please stop posting

Who do you think you are? Are you the post police? I'll stop posting when I feel like it. But, as a consolation prize, you are invited to eat $hit.

Read the paper's Bozo. The housing bubble has offically burst, oil is sky high, the dollar is about on the level of a peso. Therefore SWA is doing the smart thing and not taking on new pilots in anticipation of a recession.

guys- we'll know when we're supposed to know- and it'll be clear. in meantime- my grandmother told me never to put all my eggs in one basket- Always keep progressing- always keep putting yourself in situations where you learn

SWA reduced fleet growth

Did anyone else see the press release where SWA announced reduced 2008 fleet growth?
New projected growth is 5 to 10 aircraft (as opposed to 19.)

Mr. Kelly just announced this morning that our growth/reduction in growth for '08 would only be "five to ten aircraft". That will definitely kick the "new hire classes" can down the road a bit.

Southwest Airlines Co. said Tuesday it is cutting its planning growth in 2008 to five or 10 new airplanes, compared to the original 34 airplanes it had planned and the 19 airplanes it had retrenched to earlier in 2007.
Southwest chief executive officer Gary Kelly said the carrier's "operating revenue performance quarter-to-date has been solid rising roughly three percent per ASM on a year-over-year capacity increase of almost six percent.
"However, we are concerned about growing evidence of slowing economic growth that would inevitably affect passenger demand, coupled with a surge in energy prices," he said in a press release.
The slowing of its fleet expansion will mean that Southwest will still grow its capacity four to five percent in 2008, he said.

wow, it looks like Tanker Clown might have been right after all.

Tone, maybe you should go back to burying your head in the sand when you hear bad news. great plan.

As for you ordering someone not to post on a public forum...what a tool. this ain't the AF any more, bud.

Anybody want to guess what this does to the prospect of classes in Jan?

Depends if they are short on FO's right now. If so, slowing growth will only slightly decrease the numbers I would imagine. More like 2 classes a month vs. 3.

Heard from Orlando CP this morning that he thinks it will be more like 3-5 new planes next year. Said that they would only need 250 pilots max next year if that holds up? I don't like the sound of that for sure. There not even going to empty the pool next year unless the price of oil comes down! I'm sure hoping this all changes as next year comes around, but it doesn't look good for people in the bottom of the pool. Let alone the people that haven't interviewed yet!?!

The word I heard today is 3 classes in Jan of 24 each. I've heard of dates, but I'll wait to see what others hear. PD had off today, but will be back tomorrow.

My guess is even with slowed growth, training will start in Jan, but probably end sometime during the year (like '07). I have no clue what will happen to interviews.
