Anymore phone calls for the June 18 class? I would guess calls for the June 25 class should start in the next week or so? Any word on July classes yet?
 
When I got my call Friday evening for the June 18 class, Ronna said I slid into class after some folks deferred or declined. I got the feeling that I was the last one to make it in.

I haven't heard anything official about July classes yet. Hopefully they run three more so I can get to East coast ASAP. :D
 
Thanks for the info WNC! I am a 26 July pool date and hoping to possibly make the 25 June class! Wishful thinking?!? Congrats on getting the call!

I was in the 2nd class this year and everybody goes to OAK after your first month of hard line flying. Everyone in my class got out of OAK to PHX or LAS after the first month.

Hopefully the hiring continues and the new guys can get out of OAK as soon as possible.
 
Staying in OAK

The problem in Oakland is that the newhires get the hardlines for their first month and then typically get out of dodge ASAP. Thus even though you may have over 30-40 people beneath you, you have the constant rotation of newhires during the wave of newhire training artificially keeping you in the flow for Reserve lines.
On the plus side, the chance for a drive by shooting or carjacking is way up!

(May 28th Class)

Day 1 down (pretty much all paperwork); 6 weeks to go. So far it's been a GREAT experience!!

For the guys in the June 4th class, is it true you're staying at the Renaissance hotel?? (Start'n to plan the party!)
 
Any calls for the June 28th class? Any word on July classes. How long out are guys getting called for class? Pool date July 26th. Thank you.
 
What does a typical new hire reserve schedule look like at SWA? Is there good trip variety (1,2,3, day trips)? Are you able to trade trips fairly easily?

Reserve Lines have 15 days of work each month. It doesn't matter how long the month is. So sometime you get 16 days off, sometimes 15. Reserve Lines are a variety of 3-day Reserve periods and 4-day Reserve periods. Minimum days off between Reserve periods is three days.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I have had 3 classes start behind us in 2007, plus the 7this yr thus far and the best I can do is PHX OR LAS (pending July vacancy result today or tomorrow), with my top choice being MCO. The thing you have going for you is a slowing in the rate at which Vegas will be staffed. Good luck...

I'm with you Desert Duck....I hear from one of my sources at SWA that the Elegante is right down the road from the famous (infamous) Holiday Inn Select.

From the website, it appears to be pretty decent.

But what the heck....with the dumps I've stayed in previously, I'm sure this is going to be like the Bellagio for me..
...just gimme a roof and the books to study....thoguh cheap beers and steaks work just as well!!

I talked to Ronna yesterday, and the packages haven't been sent out yet. She said we should have them by the end of next week. Hope that helps.
 
This is a little off topic, but I had a question.

First of all, congrats to everyone in the pool. This is definitely some good news in a time where we could use it.

With the possibility of Southwest hiring here sooner rather than later, I'm going to guess that there will be a flood of applicants. Would it be safe to say that type or no type, I don't have a shot in Hell of getting called with just 1000 TPIC, right?

I should meet the mins by September or so.

All you need is the mins. I had a buddy get hired with 1050 although he did have his type rating. I would almost bet that they aren't going to be calling people in for interviews that don't have the type. I think they are going to want to have people in the pool who can start class, and not give people 6 months from the date of interview. Just my $0.02.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I have no problem going and getting the type before I apply, as SWA is where I want to end up. I just wasn't sure if they were even going to be looking at people with just the mins, or if they were going to look at guys with higher PIC time. Thanks again.

Except for a lucky few in the 2 Apr class, OAK is all new hires are getting lately. Expect OAK for at least one month--maybe more depending on when classes finish training in DAL. Next most junior are PHX and LAS (not necessarily in order).
