I'm just curious if some of the SWA newhires, or pilots who got called for an interview, could post how much Turbine PIC they had. And also whether they had the 737 type rating before applying?

I'm trying to get an idea on how much Turbine PIC Southwest is wanting these days. Somehow I get the feeling that it's more than 1000?

PIC hours

I had 1400 turbine PIC (all military jet time) and 3000 turbine total time (again, all military jet time). I had my 737 type rating before applying (got it at K&S in Phoenix). I was hired in the July DB and start class Nov 29.

Keep the faith!

I had 1600 PIC Turbine, about 500 hrs in the 737-800 from AA and a 737 type from HPA in May 04. I also made in through the July DB, and looking forward to a Dec. class date. Good Luck!

All military turbine time, 2900 PIC, 4000 total.
I applied without the type and got the interview call 3 weeks after getting it at HPA in May 04. I highly recommend HPA if you want to work with SWA, 9 out of 10 from my class have been interviewed.

2500 turbine PIC, 4000 total, 737 type, and check airman. the type put me over the top, i got called 6 days after i got it. looking at a jan/feb class.

Hired May 10.

5000 PIC turbine larger than 12,500lbs
7500 total
no type at interview
recommend type before interview to move you up in the pool so you won't have to wait two yrs to get on with the best airline in the industry.

3000 Turbine PIC (all military)
3640 Total Time
1500+ Instructor/Evaluator

Was planning on getting the Type at the beginning of July (when I could take leave), but got the call for the interview a couple weeks after putting my online app in before I had the chance. I was very surprised to get the call so fast...I think the Turbine PIC and Instructor/Evaluator time may have helped. Like Chase posts--get all your stuff prepped and ready NOW, you never know how fast the call will come. Fortunately, I followed his advice and was ready (very nervous of course:-)...but ready).

22 April Interview
20 June Type Rating (Flight Training International in Denver--only $6K)

I agree, the sooner you can get your type the better. I was able to move my class up a couple weeks, but there was still a HUGE difference between those who had their Type at the interview and me. All the folks who interviewed on 22 April with me that already had the type started class last August. I'm expecting a 3 Jan class--what a difference getting the Type two months later makes.

My advice--get the Type ASAP and have all your documents and interview prep done and ready for the call--Chance favors the prepared mind!

Good Luck,

Speed,

Glad things worked out for you & that you are joining the SWA team....nice to know some of the dribble from my brain makes occasional sense. Your illustration about the type vs. no-type is especially revealing with the difference in seniority. In your case the numbers won't be so dramatic but if there is ever a break in training due to unforeseen consequences the difference can sometimes financial devasting. A friend of mind waited until after he interviewed to get the type, was called (which was extremely fortunate when considered against the %s of those who have types who get called) but his delay in getting the type resulted in his having to sit for 15 months while his turn came around. Yes he was caught up in the slowdown that occurred in late '02 until earlier this year but it was financially stressful.

Again congrats & we'll hope to see you on the property soon. Possibility exists that there maybe more than the currently announced two classes per month starting in Jan '05 but I believe the factors that will impact that haven't all played out yet. I personally suspect more aircraft (if they arrive at all) won't come until late 1Q05 or early 2Q05...that could impact Jan classes but more likely Feb/Mar classes....waiting for the other shoe to drop at other struggling carriers is what is causing the uncertainity but SWA is prepared to audibilize the play at anytime & take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves.....that's definitely a nice option to have these days. Take care,

PIC TURBINE 4002

Applied 2 months ago. No call and no type . I 'm guessing its time to call HPA. May be that will help getting an interview. Good luck to all hope to see you there.

Kilroy,

I'm not sure if the type would help....

I have 3000 TT (all mil), 2800 PIC Turbine, test pilot, 737 type (Jan 01) with 737 aircraft commander (captain) time, and application in since Feb 03 (paper), Jan 04 (on-line). No call yet, and I don't know why not other than the computer hasn't found my name yet.

Frustrated, but patiently waiting.

Also, curious about the guys who had the 737 type rating when they applied- how many letter's of recommendation? And were those letters from SWA pilots?

Just trying to understand how SWA scores their new online application system. There's some type of method behind the madness.

GE,

I had a total of 9 internal online recs, and a few letters from within my current company.

Good Luck!!

Applied paper Oct. 02
Applied online Apr. 04
Interviewed May 04

Just under 8,000 total with 1,800 TPIC.
Around 500 hours in the 737-800
Former Check Airman, which BTW most of my class had been at some point in their career.

With regards to having a recommendation I thought this does not help you get an interview since the process is automated . It only helps you get hired after the interview. So is there some kind of point system or prefered method that the system picks thru online apps and recomends an interview. I know a 737 type is really important But what if you answer yes to speeding ticket, or may be you got a letter from the feds regarding your certificate but is not a violation . Does this bump you down the list .. Is there any rime or reason to the selection process ??
