I've actually done a bit of work with the gatekeepers and have worked with foqa/fdap managers industry wide-
So....
Should I still re-read that?

SWA IMHO is like a CAT who has used up 8 of 9 lives. How much longer can they get away with their feisty little mistakes?
A quick google search of: "What US airline is safest?", SWA consistently is near the top globaly and certainly one of the best ranked US airlines. So in answer to your question about how long can they get away with their little mistakes I will say a long time since their record is consistently near the top of the heap when measuring safety.

For leading U.S. carriers, there are a whole lot of flights, few incidents and even fewer accidents. So, while it's possible to say mathematically that Southwest outranks US Airways, the difference between Southwest's 0.0000203 and US Airways' 0.0000212 is?small. Too small to have real-world significance, it's a splitting of hairs so tiny as to require nano-tweezers.
Rankings Show Airline Safety Record

AirTran, Incidents per flight: 0.0000196
Southwest, Incidents per flight: 0.0000203
US Airways, Incidents per flight: 0.0000212
Continental, Incidents per flight: 0.0000260
Delta, Incidents per flight: 0.0000386
United Airlines, Incidents per flight: 0.0000407
American Airlines, Incidents per flight: 0.0000701

Southwest Airlines

Southwest has not reported a fatality in its operating history, according to the Consumer Warning Network, making it the safest major airline in the world. Southwest ranks at number two on ABC's safest airline list as well, with a 0.0000203 percent chance of an incident on its flights.

No. 3 Southwest (tie)

32 points
Long a passenger favorite, Southwest has proven that a low-cost, no-frills airline can also excel when it comes to safety. One of the few large U.S. airlines that doesn?t charge for the first or second checked bag, the Texas-based carrier has a reputation for jolly cabin crew as well as innovative seating and boarding.

How many -800's have you flown dicko?

Zero.

Like all AirTran 73 pilots, we've received differences training on it in the sim.We starting that about eight years ago. Yes, I'm familiar with the higher approach speeds etc.

You understand the point I was making. How is your question relevant ?

I like sidestepping as much as the next guy, but if you want to cover all your bases, you should review the landing data for that runway and cover it in your brief.

The only surprise I like is what's on tap at the hotel. :D

Why would you be surprised by something that's always an option

Well, my point is you and I have both tail skidded the same number of -800's
What was your point?

That we should be deeply concerned by a continuing trend that's heading in the wrong direction. My fear is that we're not evolving fast enough.

Yeah, I'm starting to give more credence to the distressed carrier title

You know when that title was earned, right dicko?

Thanks kernel

Had one of those out of El Paso last week

Damn cartel almost orphaned my kid, but I had that emergency takeoff ready to roll

We as in the corporate side. Pilots can adapt fairly quickly.

Maybe they'll give credence to a small aircraft flying club to build real stick time. No, they won't, they'll just make us do one more steep turn in a sim that doesn't feel a thing like the jet in a steep turn.

It's a legal option, if you have reviewed the performance required for BOTH runways, along with the notams, and briefed it.

If not, in today's environment, you're sticking your neck out; don't be surprised if it gets cut off. At least you won't have been a pu$$y, and you'll still have your workout tips and sleep techniques to keep you company.

Seriously, with recent events, you still want to keep arguing about this?

You are symptomatic of a larger problem.

Southwest killed a kid in a car....guess that's not technically a fatality..tell the kid's family that

Oh, haven't you heard their excuse? "We didn't kill him. He choked on the McDonald's food he was eating at the time."

No, I'm saying why wouldn't you review the performance and notams for both if it's a place that sidesteps you commonly enough so you're ready

I love that- 1 guy in 42 years and now we've ALL been doing it wrong forever
:-/
But don't worry, Ty and air tran will learn us

pcl

Classless

Who has ever made that claim?

We all know and think about Joshua woods and the others hurt that day.

Yeah, it is.

His name is Joshua woods

Who do you work for that you can throw that kind of stone?

Thanks kernel
Colonel.

And while we're at it;
your = form of the possessive case of you used as an attributive adjective
you're = a contraction of "you are"
their = relating to or belonging to certain people, animals, or things : made or done by certain people, animals, or things
they're = a contraction of "they are"

Why are pilots so bad at spelling and grammar?! I agree that we're professionals who should command professional compensation, but when so many on here make those assertions and display the language skills of a 4th-grader; it doesn't help our cause much!

Ok. Rant over. Sorry wave- didn't mean to single you out..this is directed at SO many out there. My own company's internal pilot forum/blog also shows me that so many of my colleagues are in need of Rosetta Stone (for English).

Surprised SWA hasn't made the investment, small software change within the GPWS.

I think they did have it on a couple of planes, but the number of write-ups saying: "RAAS system not working. Will not quit saying: ON TAXI-WAY. Starts shortly after tug is removed and continues until takeoff. Resumes again upon exiting the runway" was too much to handle.

Sorry...I couldn't resist. :D

Question: Could the FAA come after you in this situation just because you happen to be riding up front?

And yes, I know what Chuck Norris would have done.

PS . . . How many jet type ratings are on your certificate without a limitation on circling? I'm betting zero.
I have 6. Am I worthy TY? I flew "Jets" at an airport with foggy seasons also that only had an NDB. Oh the horror how we ever did that. I must be cooooool. As far as adopting AAI procedures to prevent another Branson. Most of us that have a clue about these things already do this. It just means another 87 page bulletin.

No, but you're definitely a TOOL.

If you have 6 type ratings, it's probably because your winning personality got you canned 5 times.

We looked at the RNAV app into Branson and the smaller city airport is just off CTL of the final app crse...no making excuses but I can see the confusion possibility....

Hear, hear!!!:D...on what Buck said! Wanted to say that for years. Oh, I feel so much better now that I got that rant off my chest. OBTW...that "kernal" thing is an ongoing inside joke amongst some of our "civilian-challenged" members of our group.

no making excuses but I can see the confusion possibility...........

you must have had quite a reputation with the LSO for your line ups at sea.....

You're out in the bush and Charlie is firing RPG's at your slick during your dust-off...

And you don't want to die...

That is an emergency take-off...

Got it?

Yeah, but "Charlie, don't surf"!

Hey kernals, could you tell me which of my 7800 posts I misspelled you're ?
I want to make sure I get right on that for FI

Good flame man

Oh, haven't you heard their excuse? "We didn't kill him. He choked on the McDonald's food he was eating at the time."

I'd choke on my happy meal as well if I saw a couple corn dogs (who were obviously a couple french fries short of a happy meal themselves) barreling through a fence at me..
