That is a CAPITALIZED CIVILIAN there, not just any civilian.

Good luck in the interview.

FJ

ps: Wear a white shirt.

Juvat,

Duly noted.............. I'm a product of a state school.

ok ok,

i noticed most and i repeat most responses here that went with white were former military. its not really canyon blue, its that std blue that office types wear so its not so showy. i dont look like a pimp in it either. so to get all you riled over a shirt, just some feedback, not a lashing. dang you guys that bash have the real problems.

If you think this is lashing, you need to thicken your skin. Personally, I (and i'm sure many of the individuals who have given you advice) could care less what you wear to your interview. Many of those who responded have been through the process at SWA and are giving you input. If you don't like it, (as with any other input you ask for) ignore it and do what you want. I would caution, if you try to draw some kind of mil/civ line, that won't go over well in your interview. Many of the pilots and interviewers have a mil background.

Good Luck.

So I'm in the jetway getting the plane and the outgoing FO asks my Captain if he flew in the military ....

he says, "not unitl I got to Southwest".

I almost had to change underwear.

When I interviewed at SWA, there was a guy with a blue shirt. One of the SWA guys told him he looked like a Jetblue Pilot! We all laughed. He got the job. In fact only two out of 11 or so received a job offer. I know it was his second round at SWA, and am pretty sure he was civillian. So there you go, at SWA there is no magic formula, unless you are Air Force of course, just joking.

Good luck!

I hear there is no magic formula at SWA, but if some of you interview like some of your posts then no wonder you don't get hired.

I am not trying to dangle flamebait but......

keep in mind that you are asking for fashion advice from a group of people who wear clip on ties with short sleeve shirts to work (I know, I know. It's the finest blend of polyester money can buy. I hear you).

I agree with Malter1 [BTW, love the avatar], If you are worried about what color shirt to wear you are worrying about the wrong stuff. But you dont have to wear white. Just make sure you look sharp. I personally hate the white shirt red tie thing. That's my grandfather's gear. I have always worn blue on blue to interview.

Do the smart thing - haul the old lady to nordstroms or niemans or whatever (just make it a real store - not the mens wearhouse) for 30 minutes and have her pick out a shirt and tie that work well together. Once you've spent that 30 minutes picking it out, move on to the important things. good luck with the interview!

Like dumping the bitch.

Sweet fancy Moses! I know it was an innocent question, but when I think that a guy who can't figure out what color shirt to wear at a professional job interview could potentially be flipping switches in the cockpit of a plane that my family could be riding on.... YIKES!

Sorry to pile on. I am done with this soapbox... anyone else need it?

(cockpit... hehehehehe)

Okay, we've heard from the military guys who say wear a white shirt, iron it, and get a tie that goes well with the suit. Now, as an all civilian guy, I'll offer my advice... wear a white shirt, iron it, and wear a tie that goes well with the suit. Here's another little tidbit that I'm sure the ex-military folks would agree with: polish your black shoes and wear a black belt to go with the black briefcase. This isn't difficult gang. For crying out loud, stick with a traditional businesslike look and worry more about what you're going to say and do at the interview.

That being said. Presenting one's self well is not a trait that either military or civilian guys have a corner on. Pilots from both backgrounds either present themselves well or they look like total slobs when they come to work. There's no one group who does it better. It's all about your personal decisions and the pride you take in yourself and your profession. Just go with the white shirt.

Ivuair, great story!! Very funny response. When asked where I am based, I respond, "Phoenix AFB."

Okay... flame away!

Is that meant to get a rise out of us or are you just bitter that SWA gave you the cold shoulder because you wore the canyon blue shirt to your interview?
