So.....
Are we going to be able to officially use the vacuum outlet in the flight deck to recharge?

We're getting ready to deploy a charger using the 28V DC plug. Having the screen on eats thru the battery rather quickly. Using own ship and GPS will burn through the charger even faster.

We're hoping to use own ship shortly, along with GOGO to access inflight WSI info. Imagine....actual weather charting available during the flight.....novel.

Tha app needs some major framework tweaks in my opinion, but it's all new so I'm willing to give it time.

Did the already select the pilots? Thought they were going to solicit volunteers soon...
I flew with a Captain a couple of months ago who was flying with a tablet (not an iPad) during the evaluation process for which tablet would work best for our needs. He was extremely tech savvy but was very concerned about the ease of operation by those among us that have little tech skill. I really hope they have chosen some folks for the initial testing that have zero technical skills and don't know the difference between an iPad and a maxi pad. Most will adjust to the new technology effortlessly, but we really need feedback from the lowest common denominator. When do we get rid of the gear pins?

I'm sure they selected many people from Luke AirForce base whom have never used an iPad! Just going on past experiences lol...but the good news is they will make sure the check list are amazing on there! Including the new one on how to take a leak! Too many guys forgetting to button the last button or close the zipper.

How will be able to hold the checklist next to the overhead video like in the training videos if its an iPad??????

Logbook....it's here

No they haven't. It will include roughly 700 pilots. Process to request to be included in the test will be released shortly. Test will be done using an iPad you already own. You will be supplied with a suction cup holder. Permanent holders will be installed later. Must be at least iPad 2. Stipends will be paid in January. Not sure of exact amount, but will cover purchase price of minimum required iPad + insurance + case + income tax adjustment. You may add your own cash to purchase upgraded iPad. Mini is supposed to work very well.

Idea behind stipend is that it results in an iPad that is purchased by the employee, and equipment that may be used by the employee as they see fit. No need to restrict outside use or require pilots to carry a separate device for personal use. I am sure paranoid guys still will.
