storing QC2/uflymike headset

question for you out there that use the Bose qc2 with the uflymike adapter. When putting it away for transport/storage after use, do you unplug the mic from the headset? I can't seem to get the headset and mic to fit in the bose carry bag with the mic attached. I Don't want to keep unplugging it all the time as the connection/port could get worn out. Any tips? What do you do? Thanks

You have to unplug it to get it to fit. Ive been using mine for almost a year now and it doesn't seem to be wearing out at all. The only part that seems to be subject to wear is that little o ring and you should have some spares for that. In the highly unlikely event that you do manage to wear it out somehow im sure it would be covered by the warranty. Good luck!

They are sold seperatly. I got my QC2 off of ebay, but you can get them just about anywhere. Bose is stingy about the price, so you shouldn't be able to find it on sale anywhere. $299. The mic adapter you can find on www.uflymike.com . Mike is a SWA pilot and does this on the side. He makes a great product and his customer service is fantastic. Highly recommended. $200 for a grand total of $499 pre-tax (remember that it is deductable). Compare that price to similar noise cancelling headseats.

My only regret about buying this system is that I didn't do it sooner. You are going to love it.

The Bose QuietComfort 2 headset can be purchased many places. I got mine at Crutchfield.com, which offered free shipping and didn't charge sales tax in my state.

The UFlyMike is a third-party product, which can be ordered here:

Together the package will run you about $500 ($300 for the headset, $200 for the mike). Note that it will not work with the QuietComfort 3 headset; just the QC2.

I will tell you this, if you're still flying the 1900, I seriously doubt it's going to provide adequate noise canceling. I used a LightSpeed Twenty 3G in the 1900, and it works very well in that noisy environmenet. (In fact, it's for sale for $200; drop me a PM if interested.)

I fly a Beech 1900 and use the QC2/UFlyMike setup. I switched from a Telex Stratus. The noise cancellation with the QC2 is about 60-70% as good as the Telex, but I'm a commuter and it's very common for me to get the last row on an MD80, so having the noise cancellation on the airline to/from work makes it worth it to me. If you'll be in a turboprop for quite a while, I recommend getting a noise reducing headset specifically made for aviation. If you will only be in a prop for a little while before switching to a jet and/or you commute a lot, then the QC2 would work well.

Dude, I used the Bose Aviation X in the turboprops including the Beech 99. I now use the Uflymike in a bizjet. I do not recommend the Uflymike for the 99 if that is what you are flying nowadays. It simply does not have the hearing protection you need for that type of environment.

i use the qc2 in a metro 3, works fine. definately not the bose x, but for the money, comfort, and music quality its worth it for me. after 10+ hours of flight time in a day, the comfort is unmatched. also enjoy using it without the adapter when not in the cockpit. would not be adequate for metro 2!! would be good for be20, havent flown other be turboprop products. good luck, two thumbs up here.

I heard a few weeks ago that an FAA dude jumped with an SWA crew and wasn't too happy that they were using a "non-aviation" headset. I guess the problem is that if the batteries run out, the headset stops working altogether. The story is that they're going to start cracking down on crews using this headset.

Of course this also could just be rumor. I checked the site and it appears to be working.

Anybody who runs the batteries completely dead is an idiot. The headset starts blinking when they are getting low. From that point you have about 4 to 5 HOURS before they quit working. When you have about an hour to go, they start "cutting out" for lack of a better term, and if you tap on them with your finger they will momentarily kick off then back on.

I have found that if I notice them blinking, I can usually finish the day and change the battery when I get to the hotel.

I have found that you can get a week out of a battery when the light starts blinking. From a new battery I got 55 hours out of it, I wanted to see how much I could get, it got to a point that turning my head would make it cut out. Its no big rush to change the battery when it starts blinking.
