How long are pilots sitting on Reserve?

Hard to tell. That really depends on what will happen in the Summer and later. The current classes will probably do about 4 months the very least if they continue hiring. The last class in the first half of this year will probably be on reserve longer. Perhaps 6+. Of course all this hiring could just stop due to oil, and then they will be on reserve much longer. Or worse...

The most important thing to learn in aviation is the same thing a company puts on most of its financial publications "past performance is not indicative of future results"

Pilots are often hired in waves which means that there will be huge gaps in what they experience. To predict what a new-hire will experience is almost impossible because deliveries are never guaranteed and retirements are not enough to make a difference in the near future.

If you're curious about DTW because you don't want to commute, then it's really the wrong question. For now at least, DTW is a very senior base, and for a new hire it would likely be a couple years to bid into the DTW domicile. The junior base now is ACY, but it seems new hires are moving to FLL fairly quickly. It can change though, and bases can go away all together too, so you can't really count on any particular domicile. But the flying out of all 3 domiciles is great for the most part.
