As for hiring at Spirit...the original post... don't they have guys on furlough still? Additionally, the VA model is great-- it's kinda like jetblue's... However, look at their route structure... More than 50% of their flying is transcon, where jetblue has paired our transcons back due to oil prices in the past. It's all about oil, and if this thing continues in Egypt where the Suez Canal is in danger of being shut down-- you're going to see oil above 100/bl again....

Hmm...I think JetBlue has pulled out of a few city pairs not because of oil but to avoid direct competition with VA, which they will never be able to compete against due to JB's costs. Barger "says" otherwise, but it is quite a coincidence (he-he). VA is doing an excellent job of duplicating what JB did in the 2000's, aren't they? Taking market share by undercutting the competition with the help of low cost, non-union labor? It is like watching history repeat itself over and over......

Fwiw, I think the "low cost" labor part of equation is by a large part, driven by the fact that the majority of the employees have been there less than three years. It is difficult for an older/matured company to compete with a new company because of this. Think legacies vs. Southwest for the past decade or two... All companies that survive long term generally go through this life pattern.

Can anybody comment on the process/experience from current spirit interviews? Every gouge website is from years ago.....let us know what to expect!

Seven exclamation marks for Spirit? Really?

That is what I was thinking, you should have used eight question marks. I think they started a class on 1/31 of 12 or 16 (I've heard both numbers) when we were hiring like gang busters they were running a class of 8 every two weeks, for the most part.

Anybody has any new info on spirit, has anybody been called? I applied with 2 internal recom but so far not a single call???

Why did you feel the need to put seven exclaimation points after the word "Spirit" in your subject line?

Wow, I guess inquiring minds want to know about the exclamation points.

Anyway, in regard to the rumor of a major announcement in three weeks, when was the start of the three weeks?

Exactly, and a year and 4 weeks ago, and 2 years ago, and...
It's a recurring theme through the grapevine.

As soon as Delta starts hiring, there will be countless spots in classes at NK. Most of the senior FO's can't wait to get out of Sprit.

Just out of curiosity, what's the DOH of the most senior FO's that can't hold CA yet?

I think they have just finished to re-upgrade the last downgrades from 2008. Those guys are 2003.

The latest award went to the last guy from 2003. The next 20 in line are 2004 hires. Followed by 5 2005 hires. Then 18 guys and girls hired in 2006. The 2004/05 hires will probably upgrade this year. May be even the 06 guys but it seems it is a long shot for them. The next 120 or so FOs are 2007 hires, and there is about 60 from 2008.

Nobody expects any major movement until after the IPO unless legacies start to crank up hiring. But instead of the huge hiring over there I read and hear more and more about reduction in capacity. Not surprising with oil hovering high. It is anyones' guess what will happen in 2011.

No IPO for the foreseeable future...SEC filings have been ZERO since October, when the SEC filed their rebuttal and are awaiting Spirits response.

If they get serious about the IPO, they will finish the FA's CBA and then within a short time finish the IPO.

Rebuttal? How about a link to that. I have not heard anything about the IPO since it was filed.

They removed Grazelle from the management team, added the employment contracts of the upper management types, added some of the lease details for the airplanes, added a conversion option to A330's...most of what they added about the 330's is hidden or censored for privacy...mostly legal mumbo jumbo

Thanks! Interesting.

On a different topic, could someone from Spirit chime in on whether the company has an SJU base. I remember several years back when spirit was talking about opening an SJU base, but on APC it doesn't list it as a base. Thanks

What kind of seniority does it take to hold DTW?

2008 hires can now hold DTW (the last year we hired until just last month).

DTW was going very senior for a while but now most First Officers that live in DTW can hold the base. It is still very senior for Captains because the guys who live there still haven't all gotten back to base and many are still commuting to FLL and ACY.

Thanks. That is what I had figured just talking to guys here and there. It is kind of interesting that DTW is such a senior base for an airline that flys primarily south and west. How senior are FO lines with day turns out of FLL?
