PIC is King

Sounds like all that PIC time is the key. I thought my 1800 hours jet pic would be competitive but it looks like I got some flying to do. Congrats on "the call"!!!

Seems like military is the key, I think it will just take a little more time for me. No military time, and no 121 instructor time I think requires more total and PIC time. Just my guess.

Could be part of it. But if your background is XJ, they like us too.

according to a retired SWA Captain I met at the FBO, he said SWA really likes
ex military who are now at commuters, logging commuter time waiting on the LUV

SWA does like those guys, but no more than any other groups.

June 20th interview

Great post chase. I interviewed June 20th. Best interview experience of my life. I'm starting to think I didn't make it though, because none of my contacts have been called, and it's been almost 2 weeks. 5 of the other guys had contacts called last week. Anyway, time will tell. It's not easy waiting. Considering I didn't get it, how long is the wait to re-apply? Do they delete your app?
Thanks man.

To those who have gotten the call today or who will in the next few days, well done. It is an exciting time and one that you will remember for a long time. Take the time to write down or record your thoughts, your emotions, your excitement & put those comments/tapes in a safe place.

After you've just gotten through flying with a difficult capt (new difficult Capt story!), yes we have our fair share at Southwest or you've been re-routed to death due to unforeseen changes & the other crews on the van are whining about it or just whenever you need a good pick me up, take your comments back out & re-read/listen to the tape again & it will be amazing how much better you'll feel.

Not everyday will be like this day believe me but the good will far outweigh the bad....no one needs to tell you how fortunate you are, least of all me or others on here...what I will say is that your attitude is what got you through this difficult time and impressed enough folks to get you hired at Southwest...for that you should be commended.

Please look around you & find those same types of individuals & mentor them like you have been mentored to; help them through this process...we need many more like you & don't forget, some of these individuals are the folks who aren't receiving phone calls but letters...we will have left a lot of good folks on the side for another try at a later time & to them I encourage you to don't be bitter but know that you're fate with Southwest is far but decided.

For those, you're one time in the batting cage maybe wasn't as successful as some others but that doesn't mean you shouldn't (& Southwest doesn't want you too either...they praise perserverance greatly!) continue to work on those things you can control, flying time, PIC time, job experiences, contributions to the community & the aviation industry, etc.

Those things can & will make a difference when you come around the next time, the choice will be yours....don't let this temporary setback deny Southwest the opportunity to see you again so they can see what a great match you will be for Southwest.

To all who have given themselves up to this process, thanks....your families are lucky to have you & so will Southwest. Go out & enjoy your families & celebrate those things that are most precious to you...family & friends.

SWA GS date

I just talked to a buddy of mine in GS in Dallas. He passed along to me to expect a GS around the end of November(I'm in the 4th GS to go). I interviewed May 20th and was in the June 15th DB. Just wanted to try and help anyone else swimming in the pool like me who had no clue on what or when to expect.

re-applying

The wait is one year to be re-considered for an interview. The online app stays there and you can continue to update it as needed. It just gets flagged as already interviewed for one year.

To all who got "The Letter" I know it's easier said than done but hang in there. Sometimes it just takes another try. You must be doing something right because they called you for an interview. I have a few friends that haven't gotten that far.
It took me a couple trys. The sting will wear off. I still think about it almost every time I check the mail though.
When you go back the second time you have proven your not a quitter.
