Does anyone have any hotel suggestions/recommendations for the interview?

Homestead Suites Miami. It's where we stay for ground school, so you'll have an opportunity to meet some of the current crews. It's also a 15 minute walk to the sim center where the interviews are being held.

Any early word on where the 400s will be flying and for whom?

If you were hired and lucky enough to have a choice between two great types, what are the pros and cons of choosing either the 777 or the 400 as a newbie? I understand that the 400 is new to the fleet - does that mean less flying opportunity? Is there a benefit to choosing an existing fleet type (i.e., 777) with contracts?

For those pilots in training on the Classic who were given 744 and 777 slots, any word on how those slots were divided/chosen?

Slots were by class seniority, went from top to bottom until 8 peeps had bid off the -200.

400=upper deck 777=no upper deck. Should be an easy choice.

400=marketable. 777=much more marketable.
400=Saudia and Ethiopian. 777=DHL and TNT.

And then of course there's the Classic-

200=Fast upgrade and DOD flying...

Suddenly not that easy a choice...

The 200 also just got a gig with Centurion out of MIA.

Godspeed!

heck ya im looking forward to doing south america right, litton @ night baby yeah!

Whiner. Try doing it with a Carousel. The Litton 92 is perfectly capable of getting you down and back no problem. Been doing it for years and years.

The kids these days, I tell ya!

does the equipment lock apply even to upgrades? so if you start on the 777, but can upgrade on the -200 before your lock is up, do you have to wait for it to expire? Does the company ever waive it?

Equipment lock will keep you in the airplane. The company has waived it in the past, but that seems to have been a one time deal. Future staffing needs might change that.

That being said, however, I wouldn't reccomend attempting a left seat upgrade into steam gauges after having flown glass... Individual results may vary, but I think you'll find it quite difficult. Most people do.

The 400 will provide you the quickest Captain upgrade prospect, assuming you have the internal SA minimums to upgrade, and three Captain recommendations (required by upgrade). The 200 is eventually going away. The 777 is too senior for a newbie FO to upgrade quickly. Bottom line, go 400 if you think you have what it takes to be an quick upgrade Captain within two years.
