Vague website

Has anyone looked at the website yet? If you look under the "Interview process" tab, it tells you to click on the group interview you wish to attend and to fill out and print an on-line application and bring it with you. As far as I can tell, there is now way to sign up for a specific date and there is now way to print out the application once it is complete. Anybody have any thoughts?

Yea, run from aviation!

Of course they need pilots, when they take the 13 700's from ASA, then get the 13 900's ASA was to get to replace them, as punishment for our negotiations and higher rates.....and the fact that Skywest agreed to fly 90 seaters for 50 pay. So, if you are keeping score at home.......26 growth airplanes for Skywest, net 13 aircraft loss and a base closure for ASA!
Great to be here!

We've been losing about 20 pilots a month. With more recalls from UA that number is likely to continue and possibly increase.

900's going to ASA was a rumor. I didn't see a press release , did you.

I saw three 900's with ASA painted on there sides when I was in Montreal a few weeks ago, however we all know how quick one can repaint these planes.

READ THE FINE PRINT

ASA met with SLC employees on Monday, May 8, 2006, to discuss recent SkyWest, Inc., decisions pertaining to ASA’s operation of new CRJ-900 aircraft, configured at 70-seats, and to transfer ASA flying at SLC to SkyWest Airlines, beginning in September, 2006. This decision will, at some point, result in the closure of the SLC domicile. We expect this will likely occur by the end of 2006. Specific issues related to ASA employees affected by this closure will be provided as soon as practical. The SLC team of managers, chief pilots, chief flight attendants and supervisors will work with our employees to make this transition as smooth as possible.
The transfer of flying at SLC and final determination of our markets to be served with the CRJ-900 are subject to Delta approval in accordance with the provisions of our Delta Connection Agreement.

What are realistic minimums for Skywest? Is Denver a junior base?

Minimums are 1000 tt / 100 me / 100 instrument (sim, simulated, actual). Denver might take you awhile but things change here weekly. Could be right out of training, could be a year. I know someone who's been waiting for nearly a year & still hasn't gotten to DEN.

Skywest has pilots - at ASA. Skywest choses not to employ those pilots because hiring guys off the street is cheaper and they have no union, no longevity and no expectations of a living wage. These guys, like most new hires (including me at one time) are happy just to have a job flying people around for a living.

Skywest pilots are celebrating their CRJ700's which are leased and owned by ASA, promotions and upgrades are great.

Eventually, wonder if they will tire of flying an aircraft with 80% more revenue capability for the same compensation as they recieved when flying a 50 seater? Wonder if they will complain when their 50 rates get cut to match ASA? Wonder if they will complain when ASA does not hold the line on the 70 seater and the pay differential disappears?

Everything has a price. If Skywest has diverted more of ASA's airplanes the "hard ball" will not win them votes for a contract. Rather, having nothing to look forward to but displacements and down bidding will result in an ASA pilot group who feels that they have nothing to lose by trying to take this Company out. If ASA gets parked, Delta's ATL operation will go so negative that DL will probably go out.

Wonder who will fly the ill gotten jets then?

Do the ALPA carriers complain much when they fly 70-78 seaters for less than ASA? At least the SKYW pilots don't have to pay 2% of their pay for the "privilege" of flying more for less. The ALPA negotiated contracts at MESA and Northwest will have more of an influence on our rates than the SKYW rates do.

Anyone know if during the group interviews they still run interviews in SLC as normal? ie - will they still invite people to SLC, or do they expect you to make your way to the group interview? Also, I've heard SkyWest is hiring into a pool from one friend who works there. While another friend, who just finished training, is saying the July brasilia class still isn't full. I'm sure they would like to have people in a pool, but does anyone know if it exists right now?

Your chances go up dramatically if you goto a group interview in SLC, DEN, or LAX.

Really? Did they throw a big party? Dancing in the hallways? BBQ? Do tell us. How exactly are SkyWest pilots celebrating?

no kidding dave i am right with you. i guess i missed the company memo as well about the bbq and pool party about that recent announcement. wait come to think of it, none of my friends here got the memo either. i guess everytime i'm in the crew lounge i'm not there when everyone is celebrating. maybe i have bad timing.

No pool! another sign of the impending hiring boom of June 2007, fits right into the looming pilot shortage. Who would have thought one year ago that the pool concept would dry up?

You mean you didn't get the invite to the houseboat party on Lake Powell?

Ooooops.......cat's out of the bag now.

AF

The ASA pilots seem to be following the example of their DL brothers who jumped all over the RJ's while ignoring the real competion from AirTran, Jet Blue and Southwest. Now ASA guys want to blame the Skywest pilots while ignoring that Mesa and Shuttle America are jumping all over ATL.

I guess when you can't beat your enemy is easier to imagine new ones.

I kind of got in trouble at the last houseboat party so I probably won't get invited back. It only sunk part way. Everyone takes stuff so seriously. And in spite of rumors to the contrary it wasn't me that lashed all those beer kegs together and mounted a 70 hp outboard on the back. Honest!

And for those to dumb to recognize satirical humor all of the above is fiction.

Except for Joe Merchant. He just uses it as another excuse to blame ALPA for the worlds ills.

How's that decertification drive coming John??

You don't have to pretend anymore Dave. I finally paid for the damages via payroll deduction.

BTW, you an old arty (FA) guy?
