Skywest Questions

Guys, I've got an interview with SKW in two weeks and had a few questions:

1. If you get put into the CRJ as an FO it's my understanding you can bid for Capt in the BRO once you have the seniority and it's available...is that correct?

2. If you become Capt in the BRO how long is your seatlock? Can you ever bid the jet or are you forever prop from that point on?

3. Anybody here fly in the Guard or Reserve? What is the process you have to go through to get military leave? Is the company supportive or do they make it a pain?

Thanks!

1. Yes
2. 12 Months
3. I'm not in the guard so someone else should probably answer the question. However, from what I've seen there is a form to fill out which you then send in with a copy of the orders. You'll then be taken off your schedule (without pay off course).

$19.02 sucks. Try out netjets at about $45,000 first year pay,

Is NetJets hiring guys with 1000/100? I thought fractionals looked for people with some experience.

True statement about 19.02.
I think it's been stuck on that number for 6 or 7 years.

Greetings...With your experience, just curious as to why your applying at regionals instead of Continental or some of the others

If you meet the mins (2500 total, 1000 hours 121 crew) they'll waive the seat lock for you to upgrade... if they're desparate to fill the left seat of the Bro. They were doing that back in early '03. New hires were practically coming in and going straight to the left seat of the Bro. These guys were furloughed pilots who met the mins for upgrade, though.

No, of course not! At the time, there were plenty of senior pilots who could have taken upgrade in the Bro, but they didn't have their bids in for it. Most of them were just hangin' tight in the jet. Even right now, upgrade in the Brasilia is running about a year, but there are tons of F.O.'s with more than a year's seniority who could upgrade if they want to. They just don't have a bid in for it. Seniority always rules!

There are currently about 600 First Officers that are senior to the junior EMB Captain position that was recently awarded. The problem with taking the first available upgrade is that everybody that is senior to you can bid the seat anytime later, keeping you on reserve for years.

Info that will come out later this week will probably cut that down to 2 years.

If ASA pilots don't like SkyWest now just wait......

Since you dropped the hint, please expound on your prognostication.

The usual suspect...lack of turbine PIC. I've got a few hundred hours in the C-130 but that time comes SLOWLY. I put my eggs in the Comair basket which turned out to be a mistake of gargantuan proportions. SKYW has bases located where I want to be in the long run and movement...something we haven't seen in quite awhile at OH. My advice to all: stay away from wholly owned subsidiaries! When money is tight (which it usually is) you'll ALWAYS get the short end of the stick.

SkyWest will need to hire over 300 pilots before the end of the year, and beginning in July will be running classes of 70 every 3 weeks for the Rj side of the house, sorry but I don't keep up with emb operations. Should be word torwards the end of the week about substantial expansion beyond the 13 aircraft from ASA.

Honestly, I am not happy with what this will do to ASA.

More Skywest Questions

Guys, I've got two more questions...

1. How many United furloughees remain at Skywest?

2. Do you think the EMB CA upgrade will remain at 1 year for the forseeable future?

3. For those that have interviewed recently, how long after interviewing did it take to hear the results and how far in the future is your class date?

Also, what's all this talk of some big annoucement on Friday? Somebody just trying to stir the pot?? :)

Yeah I wanna know, too. WTF are you talking about, big announcement that is going to hurt ASA? You can't keep all the inside (trading) info to yourself...

One of the main reasons of hiring -my guess is attrition, furloughs back to UA, and mainly the shift of aircraft and flying in the near future from ASA to Skywest due to ASA contract problems. Again just a speculation, especiallly since all hiring at ASA has stopped.

Well, should we wait for another announcement later in the week, or is Tutts announcement re the 900s it? Either way, it looks as though your crystal ball is working......

If they need pilots so bad, then why don't they make sure interviewees are getting the info and travel passes they need to get to SLC for the interview?

Among others, I was at the group interview in Denver. Everyone I know that was there was offered an interview in SLC. We chose a day and were told to expect the confirmation email. All of us have yet to receive that email. Some of us had chosen days that have come and gone. I took days off from work to be there for the day I chose but never heard anything. I've left messages with the training department days ago and received no response.

I want to fly for them and consider them at the top of the list of 'regionals', but what gives?

Ahh...

Logistics from the inside often appear equally confounded.

Or, how about this?

Why don't they automatically offer pilots the jobs who are already flying the airframes that they are "reallocating" to the "lower cost carrier". They could probably have a few slots filled. :crying:  :p  :puke: :pimp:

How tough they on their are the mins?

Hi, I already have a class date with pinnacle but I really want to get on with Skywest. I have 925hrs and 135multi. I am wondering if I should even bother going to the Skywest open house in LA tomorrow. Do you think they will even give me a chance or will they just tell me to reapply in 6months or something?

Thanks

What about only 700, but three hundred 121 EMB 145 time? Being on furlough with low time sucks. I know of a few who i meet the mins, but damn, if there were only more options.

Great lakes would take you in a second... I'd imagine Express jet would as well. Try Air Wisconsin too -they're known to hire some lowtimres every once in awhile.

Yeah come on over, HR likes former 121 guys (even low-timers) and furloughed pilots. Quite a few recent ex-waterskiiers here, too.

...just don't fight the captain for the f**kin' controls when landing, aight???
