What with the shifting sands of the employee roster, what would one think the chances are of an RJ spot off the street? I've got an interview, but not sure if my 2500 hrs are worth anything for equipment bid. No, no jet time. All twin ifr stuff in the bush in Alaska. Hate to leave that, but it's time to grow up.

There are probably 20-30 EMB FOs that have RJ transition bids in right now that aren't seat locked. Whether or not newhires go to the jet depends upon if the bids in cover the domiciles that need more pilots. I'd imagine that we'll see newhires going to the jet this summer though.

I've seen newhires start into the jet without turbine time. Shouldn't be a problem with high multi time. I had one FO a few years back that was hired into the jet with ~1100tt/125multi.

Grass is always greener on the other side. I'd rather be flying around in Alaska than in the RJ.

You don't have to pretend anymore Dave. I finally paid for the damages via payroll deduction.

BTW, you an old arty (FA) guy?

Yep. Back in the 80's. 15E assigned to the 1/81 FA Bn which became 1/9 when we went regimental. One of the most screwed up units in the army. If there's anyone out there that served over there drop me a line.

No pool! another sign of the impending hiring boom of June 2007, fits right into the looming pilot shortage. Who would have thought one year ago that the pool concept would dry up?

There was no pool one year ago when I started at Comair. It just depends on how immediate the need is for pilots. 8 months later I was furloughed - was that a sign of the impending pilot shortage?

imacdog, that is one of the contradictory signs. A micro of the growing shortage distorted by an individual situation of a code share partner modifying its operations. My question for you is are the furloughed pilots having any trouble finding jobs?

why do your chances go up if you go to one of the group interviews?, do they still have the same atp test, crm, and sim stuff?

at the group interviews they to the interview portion, atp and mechanical aptitude tests. If they like you, they invite you to SLC to do the sim and CRM parts of the interview.

What is the upgrade time roughly running. What equipment and domicle to go with that.

Right now it's about 1.5 year minimum on the EMB and maybe 2.5 on the RJ, but keep in mind that we've had a lot of new airplanes over the last 2 years and there aren't any new airplanes offically on the horizon, at least as far as us peons know.

New hires will probably get ORD on the RJ and the beautiful, but $$$, west coast bases on the EMB.

SkyWest is hiring a lot right now. Junior base for the CRJ is ORD...SLC will be pretty junior too the way it looks. Junior for the EMB is Cali.

I'm not sure what ASA keeps griping about either...with these payrates that is. I'd like someone at ASA to compare their W2 with mine. With our contract (i.e. trip and duty rig, profit sharing, quarterly bonuses, stock options) I would bet that even with your measly $2 more an hour you get as an FO on the 700 that I still make more. Also, what has Alpa done for you lately...wait before you answer I want you to talk with TWA, United, Delta retirees, the only thing I've ever seen Alpa do is take your money and do no good for the pilots. You guys are whining about pennies while we are making dollars more. And for the record maybe Atkins shouldn't have bought you...then you'd be in a much better position, just ask good ol' Comair. I'm really getting tired of hearing we work for nothing, we make more, our QOL is much better and we're getting paperless cockpits;)

Here's some more food for thought before you guys bash me...How come a Captain at Continental gets paid just as much to fly the 777 as he does to fly the 767, there is a lot bigger seat difference on that than there is between the 50 and 66 seat RJ. As well as Frontier, they fly the A319 and the A320, same pay rate. United A320, A319...same pay rate. 757, 767...same pay rate. Now maybe you'll see a difference of a dollar or two at some companies for these differing aircraft but the seating configuration differences are enormous compared to the 50 and 66 even 74 seat RJ's. Please, find something else to whine about, maybe Jerry will dump you and you can end up like Comair.

Cheers.

how about the travel bennies? Do Skywest pilots get S3 or S3B status? How does Skywest´s travel bennies compare to ASA or Comair? Thanks!

amcnd - where did you see that the LA group interview is the 28th? As of this afternoon, the website indicated TBD...

Anyone at Skywest know how long it would take me to get back to the left seat in the airplane I fly at now at ASA?

I kind of got in trouble at the last houseboat party so I probably won't get invited back. It only sunk part way. Everyone takes stuff so seriously. And in spite of rumors to the contrary it wasn't me that lashed all those beer kegs together and mounted a 70 hp outboard on the back. Honest!

And for those to dumb to recognize satirical humor all of the above is fiction.

Oh okay...............I thought you were involved with the whole goat and it's shaved butt thingy. :erm: :p ;)

Just kidding............for those that are satirically challenged.

Skywest has pilots - at ASA. Skywest choses not to employ those pilots because hiring guys off the street is cheaper and they have no union, no longevity and no expectations of a living wage.

Are you nuts???? My fiancee made 2X more first year at Skywest than I did first year at UPS. His 2nd year RJ FO pay is more than I made as a turboprop captain. It's not $100K, but it is a liveable wage.

Skywest pilots are celebrating their CRJ700's which are leased and owned by ASA, promotions and upgrades are great.

Eventually, wonder if they will tire of flying an aircraft with 80% more revenue capability for the same compensation as they recieved when flying a 50 seater? Wonder if they will complain when their 50 rates get cut to match ASA? Wonder if they will complain when ASA does not hold the line on the 70 seater and the pay differential disappears?

Everything has a price. If Skywest has diverted more of ASA's airplanes the "hard ball" will not win them votes for a contract. Rather, having nothing to look forward to but displacements and down bidding will result in an ASA pilot group who feels that they have nothing to lose by trying to take this Company out. If ASA gets parked, Delta's ATL operation will go so negative that DL will probably go out.

Wonder who will fly the ill gotten jets then?

The Skywest pilots aren't to blame. They are good people just like the majority of ASA people. Why do pilots always blame pilots at other carriers? I like SKYW management more than ASA management and I hope we don't blow a good thing.

Info that will come out later this week will probably cut that down to 2 years.

If ASA pilots don't like SkyWest now just wait......

shortly followed by a new sticker for ASA flight bags.... you skywest guys are missing out on all these kool stickers we get to put on our flight bags.

no training agreement. 65 hours per month at $19.02 per hour and double occupancy hotel room.

$19.02 sucks. Try out netjets at about $45,000 first year pay, or go get your CPA. I know a bunch more CPAs than airline piltos that own very fun GA aircraft and seem to have the all the time to enjoy them.

Thanks, Bako....

CPA: Yup, I used to say that "Aviation is best enjoyed as a hobby, not an occupation".

Aviation: It's like an abusive lover that you just can't leave! No matter how beat up she leaves you, we submissives rationalize and reason away the abuse. It's kinda kinky that way, aint it?

I guess it's time to start a new thread. "Abused pilots and the beating they take" Oh wait, I think there is already a place on the internet about that. I think it's called www.flightinfo.com or something to that nature.

Ha, I kill me.

Too many negative vibes; this is still a fantastic carrer if you like to fly airplanes.
