1. ExpressJet management negotiates a TA they are certain will get voted down.

2. To insure the ExpressJet TA is voted down, a few days before the vote closes, SkyWest management enters into a one year agreement with its pilots giving them a raise and other improvements.

3. As planned the ExpressJet TA fails.

4. As promised ExpressJet management refuses to negotiate further and it gets parked waiting for mediation.

5. While waiting for mediation our current CPA's are allowed expire and, also as promised, we get no new ones because our labor is in dispute. The CPA's could be allowed to expire and no new ones awarded even if the TA passes. However, this way the blame can be placed on the pilots.

6. After the CPA's expire mainline takes back their planes as massive furloughs occur at ExpressJet.

7. After the CPA's have expired and the planes are gone, SkyWest Inc. announces new CPA agreements and awards the flying to SkyWest. The planes are sent to SkyWest and they fill them by hiring former ExpressJet pilots at the bottom of the pay scale.

8. Eventually most or all of the SkyWest Inc. flying is now done under the non-union SkyWest banner. After this occurs the campaign begins to drive down costs at SkyWest. Without the benefit of a legally binding contract to give them some protection, the battle for SkyWest pilots is lost before it even begins.

Or maybe... "Reverse psychology"

Reverse psychology is a technique involving the advocacy of a belief or behavior that is opposite to the one desired, with the expectation that this approach will encourage the subject of the persuasion to do what actually is desired: the opposite of what is suggested. This technique relies on the psychological phenomenon of reactance, in which a person has a negative emotional reaction to being persuaded, and thus chooses the option which is being advocated against.

Honestly. To may senerios...heck UA could say "get a no vote and UA buys xjt" and you could all be UA pilots next year... You vote for now and how it will effect the colective group. not "what if's"...

I'll never go work for another Regional. I know many who would, but I will leave the industry before I do that.

I agree but Comair proved half the list will start ALL over.

Yeah, steps 5, 7, and 8 can all occur without the hassle of a TA at XJT. If you are the Company, why would you agree to a TA that you hope fails? You don't need the pilots to blame to execute a business plan if you think it is the best course of action. Why waste lots of money on contract negotiations that you never intend to produce an agreeable contract? Why run the risk of the contract actually passing and being locked in for 5+ years?

Awesome no future at an airline but maybe I will be able to get rid of these damn open wounds on my junk!!! Valtrex here I come!! What an analogy????

Herpes gets in your nervous system, not your blood. :-D

As I am not a doctor and don't have any personal experience with herpes, I'll take your word on that one, but my point is there are ways to suppress what ails you. And I would rather work different job and only fly occasionally on my own dime than start over for less pay and crappier working conditions.

If they refuse to go back and renegotiate something that better matches my expectations, then I will refuse to use my personal cellphone for company business. This company runs on Capt's cellphones. The minute we stop using them, this place will grind to a halt. It's their greatest weakness. Nothing illegal, and certainly no job action, but almost as effective as a strike.

Negotiate something better or I'll be walking inside to make every one of the countless calls to maintenance, dispatch and scheduling.

Best post on this thread. I too will do the same.

We should be doing this NOW and stop calling for services (fuel, lav, etc) to drive home to the Co that they'd better get serious about recognizing our needs in a TA.

You are a cancer...

I wouldn't say now is the time to be doing it. We just sent them a pretty clear message. If that isn't heard and acted on, then will be the time.

Wait till you see the message they send you guys. The last regional that sent such a strong message was Comair struck. Delta heard that message loud and clear, and look how they responded. Now there are many more regionals to whip saw against, and they all fly the same routes. I'm not trying to be a negative nancy, just calling it as I see it. Regionals have zero leverage as compared to 10 years ago. Especially with the reduction in 50 seat lift

Relax, guys and gals. Let's remember something very important. This TA vote was not about the XJT pilot group holding out for more. It was about the XJT pilot group merely holding-on to what it has. If SKYW is that broke and in such a weak competitive position, then this TA would not have saved them. Also, let's not forget that the Skywest Airlines pilot group is more expensive to operate, according to last quarters financial report. Their flying contracts are just more lucrative than XJT's. Therefore, any future flying awards would cost more to operate if Skywest pilots are doing it. Unless of course they take more concessions. It's all up in the air, but it has been that way for the last 6 years; just ask all the XJT pilots who were furloughed or displaced over that time. Stop running around and yelling "the sky is falling!" It has been falling for a while.

If they can't make money paying what they do now, then they need to shut up shop. End of story. The reality is that my pay and work rules are not the reason for their poor financial results. Gross mismanagement and ineptitude are the reasons. That's where the fix lies.

New flying should go to XJT. We are less expensive to operate. Granted, SKYW did inherit all the crappy contracts from LXJT and also some from LASA when it bought both of them, but they would be wise to award new flying to XJT because we cost less to operate. It's all in the financial report. Toward the bottom, it breaks down costs per airline.

Don't larger RJ's get paid a premium and don't we have a mostly 50 seat fleet?

Skywest didn't inherit anything. Both the DAL and CAL contracts were negotiated by Inc. They were the ones who did that!

Can anyone share the 70 seat rates that LXJT negotiated with the company last year? I have never seen what they officially agreed to. I know this was outside of the ASA MECs control.

Far from negotiated. They were arbitrated rates. We of course, had no say or input. They're pretty easy to remember.....

Terms and Conditions
1. Compensation
a. Current EMB-145 pay tables will be applied to any 41-50 seat aircraft.
b. New pay tables for 51-90 seat aircraft with rates $2 higher than EMB-145 pay tables.
