Ah,

WestAir was bought by Mesa who then lost the UAL contact. Westair Pilots should have been interviewed and not just hired automatically. Skywest didn't buy them!

They are not buying CAL or anyone else either.......

or maybe they will, I don't know. I'm not making any assumptions.

I haven't heard any anouncements yet.....

the cities i have heard: waco, tyler, victoria, killeen, san angelo, abilene ( all old beech/120 runs) also i heard 8-10 e-120's in iah, 20 or so in florida to supplement/replace gulfstream

Where are you guys hearing this stuff?!?!?!

maddog805,

I was making a point, you said "The West air guys had to interview ALL OVER" And my point was, Westair was NEVER owned by Skywest. So I guess, you seem to think (By your comment) that Since Westair pilots had to be interviewed that every one that we buy will need to be interviewed (should we actually buy someone).

All I was doing was providing a fact that the reason the Westair pilots were not automatically given a job at Skywest was because Westair was not bought by Skywest.

I think we confused each other....

There seems to be a few people that think that they will be given a job IF in fact this SkyWest deal happens (which I haven't seen ANYTHING to indicate that it will). What I was trying to say was I highly doubt that anyone will be given anything. I don't see SkyWest putting ANYONE on their seniority list without interviewing them first and I don't mean a "get to know you session". This isn't a merger or buyout, it's simply a new codeshare. Maybe there will be preferential interviewing for furloughees but I don't think it'll go beyond that.

I may be wrong but we will see. Our management team seems a little too conservative to just GIVE people jobs. But what do I know, I work for SkyWest and I haven't heard anything about this whole "deal"

it is a little more to go on.

Take care!

Many rumors are floating around about the Continental codeshare with Skywest. Here are some facts.

- Continental Airlines is in active negotiations to utilize Skywest Airlines in Houston to serve small cities in the region with 30 seat turboprops

- Some of this flying is currently being conducted by ExpressJet Airlines dba Continental Express using 37 and 50 seat jets. All of this flying used to be conducted by Continental Express using turboprops, prior to the retirement of all props in December 2002.

- As per the CAL ALPA Turboprop MOU between Continental Airlines, ExpressJet Airlines, and CAL ALPA, CAL ALPA must agree to all terms and conditions related to any new turboprop flying above and beyond the Commutair flying in CLE. This "Meet and Agree" provision supercedes the Scope Section of the Continental Airlines Pilot's CBA.

- The Turboprop MOU for CLE (Commutair) required that Commutair hire (based on an informal "entry interview") ExpressJet pilots who are on furlough.

- 33 of the pilots who selected to go to Commutair are being paid by Continental Airlines to not go to Commutair training due to the proximity of their recall date to ExpressJet. Unfortunately, some of those 33 were slated to start ExpressJet class in May and had their recall class cancelled. They are still being paid and not at Commutair.

- The CLE MOU provided 3 benefits to CAL ALPA and its members.
1. Jobs for furloughed pilots at Commutair
2. Eliminated the 6 month waiting period for furloughed ExpressJet pilots to regain health and other benefits upon their recall to ExpressJet.
3. Provided for a "meet and agree" provision for any further prop flying by Continental or its affiliates.

- Active negotiations are ongoing at this time between CAL ALPA and Continental Airlines regarding turboprop flying in Houston. CAL ALPA retains the right to reject this deal outright if the terms and conditions are not satisfactory to CAL ALPA.

- If Skywest wants this deal and additional revenue, it will have to agree to the terms and conditions set forth in a future MOU/LOA by Continental Airlines and CAL ALPA.

- The terms and conditions are not remotely close to being finalized so any and all rumors that you are hear are simply false.

- CAL ALPA has temporarily allowed Continental Airlines to let Skywest conduct VCT service due to a very time critical EAS deadline. VCT is contingent upon the rest of the deal being finalized in the coming month.

It is critical that people do not get "wrapped around the axle" on this issue at this time. Please rely on factual information from credible sources and not simply "crew room banter." Crew Room banter only serves to raise your blood pressure unnecessarily. Many people are working hard on this deal trying to find a solution that will benefit the 3 parties involved (Skywest Airlines corporation, Continental Airlines corporation, and the pilots of CAL ALPA - both CAL and CALEX pilots).

For those pilots who need more information about this deal (particularly furloughed and active ExpressJet pilots), please call down to the CAL ALPA office in Houston. If you are in the Houston area this week, you can also attend the IAH LEC 175 meeting on Thursday.

Speaking from the point of view of a Commutair pilot, the way things worked out here has been just fine. The Cleveland expansion has allowed, or will allow, everyone who was on property prior to January 2003 the opportunity to upgrade. It has strengthened the financial position of the company. It has made commuting easier for those of us who commute long distances. It has opened up more positions for sim instructors, ground school instructors and check airmen. The company is hiring more schedulers, dispatchers and MX personel. In order for this to happen all the company had to do was offer the new hire FO positions to furloughed XJT pilots. Not a bad deal in my book. The XJT guys have fit in well from what I have seen. Now I am sure the majority of them would rather be back at XJT, but at least they are off the street for the time being. Some of them will even have the opportunity for upgrade by the end of the summer. If I were a Skywest pilot, I would love for this to happen.

I definately agree with Maddog. SkyWest won't just "give" pilot positions away to anyone. They are pretty serious about their interview process over here and I don't see any kind of "getting to know one another" informal interview taking the place of it. As for you guys in the pool, it's my opinion that you get the next class dates. I view all of you as an extension of the seniority list having been offered jobs here, given class dates, and subsequently having them cancelled or postponed. I do think COEX furloughees would and should get pref interviews, but no guaranteed job. Having worked here at SkyWest now for a couple of years and watching how things operate and learning the culture/opinions of the pilot group, this is just how I think SKyw would likely do the arrangement. However, I guess if the COEX union would not go along with such an arrangement, I'm fairly confident SkyW management would say "thanks, but no thanks." They've done it before.

anything new?

Is there any new news out there regarding this issue? It seems to be the same things over and over again.

No. Negotiations are ongoing. Please read my post above or the separate thread that I started titled "CAL-Skywest Facts." That is the only releasable public information at this time. All 3 pilot groups will be informed once the final deal has been negotiated.

ONE thing is for certain SKYW is not in a position to say that! SkyWest is in a precarious situation right now and needs all the work they can get.
