Skywest would be stuck with 60+ 50 seaters they would need to find a home for....

Which ASA and Comair could get really cheap and fill them quickly. Maybe that is the plan!

The way SkyWest would wind up out of the contract would be if Delta goes into BK and then tries to renegotiate for a rate that wouldn't make it worthwhile. SkyWest would say no and then Delta would give the flying to someone else. Manangement here has no interest in the 50 seater, their eyes are on 90+ seat aircraft.

At this point, I think the long term health of Skywest is directly linked to it's business with Delta. I'm not saying it's survivability, but it's health.

You're probably right.

General, I know the SkyWest pilot group hasn't engendered a great deal of respect with regard to pay for larger aircraft. However, I think you'll find that SkyWest pilots are not anxious to be taken advantage of again. Many of us refuse to fly the 70 for 50 rates, and I feel that many, many more will do the same if 90-seaters are proposed, especially at the same rates. I have a feeling SGU knows they've pushed their luck up to this point, and any such offer will be soundly rejected by the pilot group.

I don't think so Tim.. That last thing that Delta needs is more 50 seaters at either ASA or CMR. With Delta in BK (should it happen) they won't want to assume anymore lease payments.. The purpose of the filing is to get them out of some bad contracts and situations. Look for a similar situation to what UAL did with the connection carriers.

The more likely senario for Delta is to file BK and then obtain allowances for more 70 seat and also 90 seat aircraft to be flown at DCI. Maybe Skywest can trade the 60+ 50s in on some 70s and 90s and make it work.



In the end Skywest might have to make a big decision.

Two things:

1. IF the merger happens (and I hope it doesn't for all parties involved) I just hope some way to merge the pilot lists that pisses off the fewest people can be found. (Not that EITHER pilot group will have ANY control over that). If those few pilots (from both companies) are as whiney and small as their posts have been on here and it is not just their on-line alter-ego, I hope they will be the ones who are forced to interview/re-interview for their jobs because I just don't want to fly with them. BTW, I'm betting that's probably less than .5% of either pilot group.

Now, for the record I am a SkyWest pilot who supports my pilot group, they're a great bunch of people. Please don't accuse us of guilt by 'no-comment' just because we (the majority of us) don't engage in this pointless guessing game. On the other hand, all of the ASA pilots who I have met have been cool people whom I would fly with. I doubt they are accurately represented by the posts on this topic as well. So, IF this thing goes through, I'll welcome you all aboard whether you got screwed, I got screwed or whatever. Let's drop the negativity. I prefer to drop the whole speculation thing, but if we must discuss, please remain professional everybody. Disagree? Sure? Threaten to 'burn the place down' and Artic, come on! You're a better guy than your avatar. Lose it, please. So, flame on everybody, but at least I spoke my mind.

What a refreshing change of pace. Joe, I am quite sure sir, that you attitude and professionalism proliferates into your flying. I would bet you represent the feelings of the other 99.5% of the pilots at Skywest and the 99.5% of us here at ASA. Thank you for writing what the vast majority of us are thinking.
