Class of twenty started last Monday for the Beech and a upgrade class of 20ish for the jet starts Monday. Some reliable brass said that this is a good sign considering that we are already 150 pilots overstaffed. For a company that is real conservative on training, I hope this a positive sign for the future in regards to Delta. Who knows.

Be Careful

On 9-11, I was moving all my stuff, and family across the country in anticapation of beginning class with Skyway on 9-14. I called, and they said "yeah, were still having class...." two days after I signed a year-long lease, myself and about 30 others found ourselves on furlough for 2 years. Now, don't get me wrong, I was still glad to have a senority number, but be cautious about the (long-term) decisions you make based on their information. If the Delta deal is about to fall apart you will be the last to know. And BTW, the costs involved in starting a class to be on the safe side, are minimal. If they start sending you to the sim, then they are probably serious, or have worked out a deal with Delta to cover those costs. Just dont let your hopes cloud your judgment.

Best of luck.

I agree. However, there is a 328 new hire class that is starting on the 15th (in theory). Any people in the pool get a call about it? If pilots from the latest beech class start to go the sim that is a good sign. I'll feel a lot more relaxed about the entire thing if we start to see some of the Delta 328s in the hanger. All bets are off if the Detla pilots vote no to the TA though. Assuming a yes vote, I’m cautiously optimistic.

Minimal Cost

It is true that ground school would be the cheapest part of training. With that in mind it is still a substantial cost and one, I feel, Skyway wouldnt make without light at the end of the tunnel.

The 9-11, I agree there were the immediate furloughs after a class just started but talking to the head honchos I truly believe that moment in time was pure chaos. Knowing these people, I dont think that they had any intentions of furloughing a class after they just started it. I am sure that their marching orders came from higher up the ladder.

Your right, the Delta deal might tank but all the indications I see is that the deal is gonna go through. It doesnt matter who is paying for training right now. If Delta is paying then they wouldnt just throw out good money, especially in this time of high scrutiny and looming doom. If Skyway is paying the bill, I KNOW those guys wouldnt throw good money at a dead dream. Especially if they are fat on pilots by 33 percent.

I completely understand the concept of once bitten twice shy but that is the nature of the business. You cannot let that consume all your energy in your decision making process. The saying is true, "Two types of pilots, those that have gotten furloughed and those who will."

Anyways, the tattoo parlor said it would be a b!tch to get the Delta Connect tattoo off my arm now, so at this point I am still gonna hope.

Someone must know something. To be 150 pilots overstaffed is a great cost. Some of you only think the sim is a cost of training. Skyway unlike some other regionals pays the pilots during training. A 75 hour guarintee to 150 surplus pilots is a great cost. At the current pay rates that is $210,000 more per month. This wouldnt happen if Skyway didnt know something.

I heard that they are starting a dojet fo class of 16 next week. The assumtion here is that big D put more money in the training kitty. Go Delta!

The word around CVG is that big D has already sold some of them and the rest might not be far behind..

It looks like between CHQ, ASA, and CMR, all the flying is being covered just fine..

Good luck to you guys!!

I don't think DL wants the FRJ's back and will do anything to get rid of them. If they can find other carriers to take over the leases, they will. I'm betting they'll offer a pretty sweet deal too (FedEx got a bargain on the MD11's), so SkyWay can probably pick up some of them for the Midwest Connect operation.

As Chperplt noted, CMR/ASA/CHQ have easily been able to cover all the FRJ flying without any problem. DL has plenty of small RJ's (50 seats and less) at their disposal.

I'm not too sure Delta has any plans of bringing the Dornier jet back to CVG. We've (CHQ) started using the A gates this month. And it seems that at any given time there's at least 3 or 4 of our planes sitting there. I've even seen a few 135's there, which is surprising because we've only really flown those in MCO and DFW. I guess with the closure of DFW there probably will be more and the flying from the Dornier jets will be flown by ASA/Comair/CHQ. Just my observation. It's anybody's guess in this business!

I have noticed in the Skyway 328s in the lav, the soap dispenser is from Delta....

Where are the new-hires getting based? MKE?
Anyone know the upgrade time of the most recent class that's going thru?
Thx.

Everyone is MKE based for now. If we get the delta flying, Cincy is supposed to be the other base. Not too sure but I think most recent upgrades are from the March class. Don't know much beyod that.

upgrade time is 7 months for the beech and jet. people in the class that started 3-1 are upgrading in the beech and jet. The future jet upgrades will be a mix of current FOs and beech capt that come off of seat lock.

i dont know what the time is for people starting now
