Skyway/Delta deal not happening..

This isn't over yet! Althougth we should know something (hopefully) soon enough. If this thing is gonna start in May they are gonna have to make an anouncement here soon since training take about 2 months.

Although right now I would be happy if someone would say something one way or another about the deal. We have as many rumors floating around as we do pilots.

About being able to staff ten airplanes, maybe-maybe not. People are scared and jumping ship. We are starting to get short staffed on the Ol mighty Beech. Looks like we may havta hire to fill or take junior people outta the jet to put in the Beech.

Mostly speculation since everyone is so hush hush

Although I am looking forward to CVG!!!!!!

Not for the Beech FO's, the best line has ten days off. I heard six beech captains were being downgraded to cover everyone who quit. Anyone else hear this?

did you check the seniority list when the bids came out? I haven't heard about anything like that. They can't do that, because that would be out of seniority. On the other hand they may be pairing a Captain that is on reserve to fly as an F.O. But they can't down grade outta order. especially since they have so many F.O.'s on the jet they can retrain to fly the Beech.

I was look at the ATA smartbrief, there is a story that says if Comair takes a pay freeze that they could be in line for 35 jets......does that have anything to do with Skyway getting planes for Delta or not?

As far as news about the Delta deal there is none that I've heard. March 2nd is the big date that is being thrown around that something should be announced. That would be exactly 2 months in front of the May start up time. Something has to happen right? This can't go on forever can it? What a long strange trip its been.

not sure i see the logic to that rumor. why would Delta send Skyway mechanics to judge if the DoJets were acceptable enough to be operated for Delta, by Skyway, when Delta clearly wants a way out of it completely in the first place?

What possible motivation would the Skyway mechs have for not saying the planes were acceptable? Unless the planes were in such bad shape that they were comletely unsafe, which I just don't see as a reasonable possibility.

So if the above rumor is true, SkyWay will 100% get the planes to operate for Delta. Welcome to the whipsaw guys.

I tell you why. because delta is paying skyway to check the aircraft out. even if skyway will not get the deal, they are not loosing anything to do what delta tells them to do, if the finacial aspect is covered.

So we have come full circle. Management was talking about this deal starting in August all along….of 2004. What a rollercoaster. Metroplex, do you know if all of these rumored jets are suppose to be online in August or is this the start date for delivery?

I heard 5 planes in Aug. and then 5 each month after. Also something might be something announced on March 2. Someone did the #'s and we are only over staffed by 4 crews. Maybe a class next month or 90 day from 2 weeks ago. There are 1000's of rumors. Who knows what true. Well there is one guy going to XJT on the 7th so I move up a #. Lets just hope the deal goes through...

With this new schedule there is the plan for new hires to come into the Beech in May. Sounds like it will be the standard class of 20 including very few if any of the furloughed 20 that were in ground school in November. It sounds like many of those furloughed have other airline jobs now. Good for them.

What I have a hard time understanding is the FOs currently with Skyway that have only been here a couple of months that are bailing to other regionals. Skywest, Xjet, and Pinnacle are all great places to work I'm sure but they're still just regionals. You're really just talking about going from the bottom of one seniority list to the bottom of another. Maybe some of these guys only wanted Skyway for the quick upgrade. Maybe they didn't want to live in Milwaukee and couldn't handle the commute. Maybe they were just trying to be proactive because they thought for sure they would be furloughed. If Skywest, Xjet, and Pinnacle were where they wanted to be all along then why didn't they just go there in the first place? I wish these people lots of luck and hold no ill will but I do feel like they should have at least seen this thing through. Explaining what may be viewed by a future interviewer as a lateral move can be difficult.

As far as bailing goes I'm usally a pretty loyal if whinny employee, I too see no real benny of a lateral move except pay. But they knew the pay when they hired on, look at all the people that stayed with SKYX after all the ups & downs of the previous couple of years.
I for one would not want to be sitting in an interview and be asked why you stayed at XYZ for only 6-10 months, no way justify that. Another problem I have is that SKYX paid alot of monies to train these people only to see them bail as plans changed(again I am a bit of a loyalist). I am not a huge fan of the training contract but it would seem to save alot of hassel for "A" company to atleast recoup some of the exhorbadent cost of training, insurance, uniforms, and background checks(feds don't pay for that the company does).

Jesus I guess I ought to shut up now, and remember kiddies lower the lid for the next user .

I have to say I agree that people should have stayed to see what was going to happen. Especially since the checks were never late and they always cashed. Although, (not defending those people), I know a few that left and it seemed to be more of a leave now and avoid the furlough later. Some just got caught up in the negative rumors and took that as fact. I also know a few that just couldn't handle the thought of being on reserve and flying 7hrs a month when other companies are expanding at a rapid rate and they can leave to go fly 80-90 hrs a month. The bad thing is that NO ONE ever released any information that was positive or at least the truth. It was all just speculation and rumor.
I wish them the best of luck but it is hard to make an informed decision without the facts

be real, skyway might not be southwest or jetblue but it has the same problems as any other airline. at skyway you probably know more what is going on than at most other companies. why, beacuse skyway is so small. at other and larger airlines senior pilots do not even know how many aircraft the company has or when they ad a new aircraft to the fleet....
if you think to see a fast upgrade at xjet , or any other feeder, you are dead wrong. what ever they tell you in an interview is crap. never !!! make a lateral move.....

Easy there fella, I said in my post I was not defending any of those people. I also said that I intend to stay; and I intend to until I have reason to leave. I like Skyway a lot and have been treated really well. I have worked for another regional and a supplemental,before being furloughed to fly corporate. I am excited Skyway was my ticket back to the airlines. I know they can only release so much info. I was just stating why the people I knew left did so. I agree another regional is a lateral move and personally would be in no hurry to leave my spot on the seniority list to go to the bottom of another. Not only that I am not sure what I said that would make you think another regional is better. So look I am not mad, I just am not sure what I said to deserve that ripping.

Good to see you're still alive and kickin'. I'm going to be brief here - people leave their jobs all the time. The only anger I'd harbor is if they didn't give the industry standard two week notice. If you call your ACP or CP and say "Sorry, I'm leaving tomorrow" - that would make me angry.

Otherwise, how can you guys "get on" some of these 20 people that were furloughed? THEY WERE FURLOUGHED, for *HRIST'S SAKE! As in, no more J-O-B. To expect folks to blissfully wait around for the almighty SYX is a little ridiculous, especially if you've been laid off. Yes, they paid to train you - one would think that if any company did that that does not, as someone pointed out, have a training contract, if they turn around and furlough you, all bets are off. You might even go as far as saying WHY did they hire you in the first place, especially if the deal was on shaky ground? I understand loyalty - I think it's a good thing. Loyalty, however, does not pay the bills when you get the nice certified letter in the mail.

It kills me, it really does. Look at it from a positive standpoint - there's 20 people that are really excited and thrilled to be given a chance to go to an airline now, and the 20 people that moved on, well, they moved on. Who knows what each individuals reason is - maybe they wanted to fly something other than the 1900 and the 328 - maybe they want better pay, maybe they LIVE somewhere other than MKE (a difficult fact to grasp for some, yes).

If they didn't give appropriate notice, shame on them. Otherwise, get over it.

Always good to end on a positive note - I hope that whatever is planned for the 328's in MYR held hostage, I hope it turns out well. And I do mean that!

I have said that if you dont want them to leave then give them a reason not too. Make schedules better, better pay, better management etc etc. You cant blame people for leaving, you or I do not know the pressures they are under.

But, I agree with the post earlier have some loyalty to an airline that took a chance on you in the first place when no one else would. That is the way I feel about here, I am glad they took a gamble on me, and I am willing to ride out the preverbial storm, and storms to come.

And if anyone is more senior than myself: the above loyalty does not apply to you SO LEAVE !!!!!

I am still in Skyway's hiring pool from last August, however I have since taken a job at Eagle (ATR FO in SJU). I want to get out of Eagle due to the flowbacks and only being able to come home 3-4 days a month. I am thinking of going to Skyway regardless of pay cut and whether or not the delta deal goes through. I am just curious about the QOL at Skyway.

- are 1900 lines commutable? (live in OMA)
- how do they treat you guys? (I am nothing but another number out of 3000 pilots. CP and ACP look at me like f####ing their dog in front of them when I go into their office when I need to ask a legitimate question.)
- how long would it take to upgrade in the 1900 if deal doesn't go through? (it has to be better than a 7 year upgrade in the Saab)

yea they should be. i m on the 1900 and i have 2.5+ commut and I got home on resv. 7 full days a month and part of 3 to 5 days a month hold a line has worked out about the same. It is the stand-ups that get me. most lines have 1 to 3 a month.

Everyone is real nice. i have walked into the CP office and each time he has asked my name. along with the answer to the question. with the amout of pilots they have hired this year it is a little hard for him to remember everyone.

who knows... i have heard we are fat about 4 crews. That will depend on how many senior people leave. this year so far one that i know of. i do know that there are a few going on interviews. my guess and this is only a guess would be 3 to 4 years to upgrade w/o the deal. I might be way off. Could be as little as a year. All depends on how many jump if the deal does not happen.


As for Metro and Wacko I'm going to be cracking up when you two fly together.
