I'll bet he's still living at his parent's house.

Hey the kid got it the right way so to speak. School, CFI job, Lear job and then this charter airline. Can't say he took shortcuts.

The only problem i have is that because he is getting stupid amount of hours a year and young. I have been doing this job for almost 12 years with the same amount of flight time only because I fly close to 300 yours a year. If we both go for the same job he will be considered more experienced because of the total flight time: however has gone from BCT to BOS 300 times. I should have gone to a regional for a year just to get another 1000 of flight time. And yes I’m drinking and typing again. So F Him.

Apparently, he was smarter and/or more focused.

You must not know how these small charter out fits work. Going from BCT to BOS 300 times is unlikely. They tend to go from contract to contract all over the place. In fact I noticed one of their a/c on the ramp in NRT last fall.

I know the guy. Good guy, and from what some friends at skyking say, good pilot.

He eats, sleeps, and breathes aviation. He devours manuals, procedures, and systems voraciously. I would put my family in a plane he commands. He's also a good friend.

Now if I could just find a girlfriend for him..

Girlfriend ? You dont really mean that do you, looking at your experience I would think you would know better. At 24 I don't think he needs some chick to influence his decisions, put a drag on him . When he gets to DAL/SWA in a few years they will be all over him with little need for help...LOL

Yeah, I think every company has one of these guys. The type that can quote any FAR in the regs or describe the inner workings of a flux capacitor.Good for him, I just thought he was a little young. It's just not everyday you see a 24 year old captain flying something larger than a twin turboprop or even a light jet.

I'm not begrudging this guy his accomplishments, but experience is much more than just the sum of everything you've read in a book or manual. Facing a situation in an airplane that makes you break out in a cold sweat because you know there's no one behind you that can hit the "freeze" button is one hell of a teacher.

Which might be why the Sun Sentinel did an article on him.

A lot of pilots have taken a chance on Sky King in the past few years. It went through bankruptcy, had many a late paycheck, and times when no one knew what direction it was going. Those who has been there for more than a year have already been rewarded with the fastest upgrade in the 737 world. Several have left for SWA and FedEx recently. F/O pay is better than any of the majors for the first few years. Captain pay isn't great, but you get there so fast you don't mind as much. Hopefully for the 70+ guys on the seniority list now, the promised expansive to 15-20 aircraft will come through in the next year - and everyone there will be a captain!

(...well, almost everyone....)

Dont knock the guy HE EARNED IT even the 24 year old captain knows he is working for a dirtbag operation so lets leave it at that..

I was a beechjet captain at age 22 and I went in and looked at my log book I had 3200 hrs TT.. With the exception of 5 months in the right seat my entire career was all pic until i got the the airlines.

I also was a total aviation nut a plane can fly over and i will tell you what it is based on sound. Now 12 years later i dont care and would prefer to just see my family everyday.. but i have some great memories..

good for him

737, LR-JET... whatever. If you've got the time and the airmanship ability; good for you. Most of the young guys are better pilots on average than the old timers I've seen. Not always the case; but on average I'd say so. And yes, experience is the best teacher for knowing what to do when something goes boom. And it sounds like this guy wouldn't have any problem keepin' 'er upright.

Right person, right place, right time. Meh...whatever. Hope Skyking holds together long enough for him to get to SWA. But, then again who knows, Skyking could take delivery of 150 737NG's in the next 5yrs and get bought out by SWA. Keep rolling the dice until you crap out, then start over.

God bless him !!!

you're all idiots, tell him to get to medical school before it's too late. In 10 years he'll be 34 with a family to take care of and be out of work.

Sorry you are so unhappy

Wow... 3200 at 22 yrs. Impressive. Your family must've flown too, right?

Most pilots with mounds of time early on seem to have family who had them behind the stick at a young age. I didn't take my first flying lesson until I was 25. Money was a big issue all along the way. My certs all had to come in pt 61 piecemeal over several yrs.

Mr. Sky King...from Boca??? Put in a lot of hard work?? Embry Riddle? Lived with his parents? Don't think so....So many other pilots have put in the same amount AND MORE and have never jumped to the right seat of a Lear then to 737...bet his type rating was paid for...not out of his own pocket (maybe a paper route??) ....good for him...I'm sure someone got him this job. Looks like everything was bought here!!! he may be a good Pilot but CERTAINLY hasn't worked as hard as MANY other pilots I know. Just sayn....

I don't know this guy but I think you are making lots of assumptions...

Must have, I had 3700 at late 24, almost 25. I logged my first bit of time at 13 and I flew odd commercial flying jobs since I was 19. That guy had a good pace going. Good for him!

Good for him. I know someone who just went to Sky King and met him and said he was very professional, really nice guy...some people are just that lucky.

As for the age thing; I'm 25 with 5,400 hours and ATP, CFI...kissed up at the airport a lot and met a really good friend who let me fly his plane a lot for gas and lunch, and a co-worker who let me fly his plane around for gas and a little extra cash and did the instructing thing as well. The assumption that everything is handed to someone because they're achieving a lot at a young age is not necessarily true. I came from a single parent and had to do all kinds of summer jobs, internships, retail jobs to pay for flying and school.

Sorry so bitter. No assumptions just going off the thread and the sun sentinel article. Sooo moral to the story is start flying out of womb go to embry riddle or sign up at the regionals at 250 hours. Dont make career change later in life. Thank god I love to fly. Because this industry is a joke and it appears that "some" of us don't get our jobs because we are qualified but because we sucked up to the right hangar or hamburger joint. I'm sure mr. Sky king earned his way. Good luck to him and all!! Fly safe!!!
