All the more reason why the legacy airlines are in more trouble. High oil prices are a reality, and the days of $30-60/barrel are gone. China has seen to that, and India is doing it's part. So ALL airline business models and cost structures that were developed prior to this spike in demand are now outdated. This alone is the reason why airlines are unable to pay the wages they used to pay, and the wages we deserver.. not because of a 5 airplane company called Skybus.

The way I see it, I have little to loose, if I try it.. in the end if Skybus flops I have American to fall back on... I have absolutely no intention to apply to DAL, UAL, NWA, AAA or any other legacy carrier, and the other LCC's while interesting don't offer the same career advancement and rapid seniority rise.

American is more than 2 years from calling me back at the rate they're going anyway.

I think the Skybus model is a solid one, the company is well capitalized, with experienced management (ex- Southwest, Ryan Air, etc..) and their CEO is a respected business mind and book author.

Considering they're only flying 5 airplanes and have yet to reap the advantage of cost reduction (efficiency of scale) that comes with an expanded fleet size which is only a few months away, they're a good gamble; one I'm willing to take.

Frankly I find it distasteful that anyone would use the word scab to describe the guys working there, many of whom are furloughed legacy pilots that have either given up on their prior employer, or are still waiting recalls..

The good news is that forums like this are just a tiny sample of our profession. I know several senior pilots at American, Delta and United, all of whom advise me to go for it, they' don't read these stupid forums (I should do the same), and tell me that any talk of scab or denying jump seats isn't happening in their cockpits.

Anyway, I'm done here.

After reading your childish postings: 1. You are drunk or 2. It is highly unlikely that you are a blueblooded american airlines pilot.

I dont think there is a ex aa pilot out there that would carry on like that about a craphole company that they dont work for and have not interviewed at.

There is not an airline in the short history of this industry that has lowered this profession more than skybus. A pilot having to pay $2 for a bottle of water is of the highest insult.

Next they will start dropping flights... oh wait they have already done that

On behalf of every pilot trying to build this profession back up: "Skybus deserves to fail miserably"

I heard you guys are already pulling out of some West coast destinations. And cutting back service on others. Doesn't sound promising.

Ok, you sucked me into it again.. just cause I hate misinformation..

FACT is, they have 5 planes now.. it's A LOT more profitable to use a plane on short routes where you can sell the 150 or so seats 3-4 times a day at a certain cost, rather than use it 2 times a day as would happen on a transcon trip to the west and back.. So the pull out was offset by the added flights to places in FL, NC, and now the Bahamas.. AS PLANES COME IN, they will return to those routes.. It's a case of putting the horse before the cart. Just take the time to do a google news on SkyBus and read for yourself instead of going off FI.com rumor..

Would you have UPS do othewise?

As for "you guys"... I don't work for them yet.. just strongly considering the positives along with the negatives..

I don't see anyone hating on Sprit Airlines which has 65/hr rate on the 320 1st year CA, and Sun Country which is in the 30's... (yes 30's).

BOTH don't have profit share, or stock options either, and both don't have work rules that permit 100 credit hours inside of a 15 day work month.

Why the hate and fear of little old Skybus?

I don't care who you think I am.. I KNOW who I am.

As for $2 water.. site your source. AGAIN, misinformation. FI.com has hit rock bottom..

ALSO.. what are your thoughts of Spirit and Sun Country pilots? Both earn less and fly same or similar planes..

Waiting for response..

FI.com has hit rock bottom..

Yeah, you're right. When FI.com posters start defending a sh&^bag bottom-feeder outfit like Skybus, it really has hit rock bottom.

ALSO.. what are your thoughts of Spirit and Sun Country pilots? Both earn less and fly same or similar planes..

Since neither airline has first year Captains, and neither airline ever will have first year Captains, it's not an issue. ALPA doesn't waste negotiating capital on negotiating phantom payrates. If there isn't the slightest chance in hell that there will ever be any first year Captains, then wasting time and money on negotiating a good payrate for them would be ridiculous. Skybus, on the other hand, actually does have first year Captains, and actually is paying them 50-seat RJ wages to fly an Airbus. Pathetic.

FMS Speed - OIL IS AT $89 A BARREL. HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE MONEY FLYING OUT OF OHIO AT $89 A BARREL? Last time I checked Columbus didn't have Palm trees. Have you lost your mind? I've seen how this nightmare is going to end, remember Independence Air? You are only fooling yourself.:bomb:

The indy guys didn't have a choice. The bs plan was thrust upon them. Skybus guys have a choice. Make it a good one, go to SWA, FDX, Delta, CAL, Netjets(in columbus no less), Alaska,...just not Skybus.

I wonde what you would be saying to that WN new hire back in '77...

pathetic!

FMS,
You're in a losing fight here shipmate. Sure WN, VA, and JB started with low wages, but Skybus takes the cake. The business model may work overseas but American travelers, as cheap as they are, are also primadonnas (sp?). The payrates of Skybus Pilots and FA's are ridiculous. Say what you want about any particular airline "lowering the bar." The compensation there is what is pathetic.

Secondly, I'm surprised it's even legal for Skybus to say they fly to "Boston", "Seattle" and such. The airports advertised for these areas are quite a drive from the actual city.

If you're truly an AA furloughee, at least keep some self-respect and avoid that place.

I wasn't insulting the Indy guys, I am an Indy guy. I just meant that I have seen this game plan play out.

Dear waiting for response: I think the pay of every passenger carrying part 121 airline in america truly sucks. It's just the airline that you are pitching a tent for that i want to fail because of the mentality that you portray on this thread.

I am sure my airline would happily find a home for skybus pilots as they did when indy hit the crapper.

Dont be offended but the whole premise for skybus is to suck the most but charge the least.
