It's too bad we (JB) pulled out of CMH...in Feb. I bet business would really pick up once they fold. I guess nothing says we couldn't stay there and/or start back up.

This is exactly what RyanAir does, which resulted in it being sued in the European court. Now it has to say where it's going to, not the closest big name place.
These guys came from there - they're just following the model, until someone sues.

Exactly... It's a shame that other carriers are adopting Ryanair's tactics, i.e. bringing passengers to an airport 60-80 miles away from the city it was advertised as.

It would be one thing if these airports were well served by ground transportation to take folks to their final destinations, but SWF is one of the last places I would like to be if I was heading to New York...

Then again, you get what you pay for

They aren't the only ones known to do that. Southwest has a billboard just outside the PHX airport touting their nonstop service to DC in big bold letters, when it's really Baltimore/Washington International Airport that they go to and not DCA. At least they 'fess up to it and put that on the billboard. But it's in a much smaller font size and easy to miss as you drive by and read it.

PHXFLYR:cool:

I thought that as well, but then in IAD a couple days ago, there it was the Orange Bellied Money Maker.

When did they start Dulles?

If you're refereing to SWA, they've been there for a while. I don't know about Skumbus though

Mods - please move this thread to an appropriate category. AOL used to have a Start-up Airlines board, so you might want to consider something like that. Otherwise, LCC makes the most sense.

OK let's get something straight here. Skybus doesn't go into Seattle or Vancouver, they go to Bellingham. They don't go to Boston, they go to Portsmouth NH. At least they correctly mention "New Orleans" as really being Gulfport/Biloxi MS.

Other Skybus misnomers: What they call San Francisco is really Oakland. What they call Hartford is really Chickopee, MA (WTF??). What they call New York is really Newburgh/Stuart. There are other ones. Am I the only one that finds these intentional misrepresentations annoying? I'd hate to be the little old lady that thinks she's going to LGA and ends up at Stuart with no way to get to the city.

I couldn't agree more. I'm amazed they get away with advertising cities as completely different cities an hour or more away.

As far as SWA and BWI, BWI isn't nearly as far away - hence the name Baltimore Washington International.

Why put skybus in LCC, US Airways stock ticker is LCC and they're not in there. What is a low cost carrier? Check out United narrowbody rates, now thats low cost and all of USair pay was trashed, SWA and JB pay better and there considered Low cost?
There is no such thing as a low cost carrier, just low cost labor.

I'd be fascinated to learn what the most completely ridiculous thing you have an opinion on is. I suspect that this isn't it.

I'll respectfully disagree that the name has anything to do with it. You can name your airport anything you want! "Baltimore Washington Int'l Airport" is nearly an hour's drive to DC, without traffic. "Sanford Orlando" airport is nearly 30 miles from downtown Orlando.

Any entity or municipality can name its airport anything it wants. Many second-tier airports use the name of a not-quite-close-enough city solely (and deceptively, I believe) to attract customers that don't know any better.

I was out of work and needed a job and still wouldn't apply.

They just don't pay enough, back every night, pay for your own housing (an additional 20% pay cut after taxes), zero incentive. If they DOUBLED their pay I *MIGHT* think about it.

I wouldn't even tell anyone that's who I worked for... Redefining new lows in aviation, thanks guys.

I agree with a previous poster: zero sympathy for travelers who are just that cheap. Next time go Greyhound, at least they have a network of backup buses to replace a broken one.

There are 3 airports universally known as Washington DC accessible airports. DCA is the only truly DC airport while IAD and BWI are both 30 miles from the city. I don't think anyone argues the idea of BWI being a Washington airport.

Bellingham is clearly NOT a Seattle airport.
