I don't know where you ppl are coming from, but I post at another pilot's message board, one more frequented by student pilots as well as CFIs and what not, and all they did is help me out with my questions, never complain once, and acted very friendly. They talk about their daily lives and I feel at home there.

No offense man... but when did you ask a question? Sounded to me like you wanted everyone to get in big circle jerk and sing songs.

Archer, ask a aviation related question and you will get a good answer. Heck, man, you could design/build/produce an airliner with all of the knowledge possessed by the participants of this board.

Next point. This entire bbs is a "hanger", instead of trying to start a fluff conversation, just surf around. The stories you're looking for, are there; just not all in one string.

Next. Talking about daily lives. What do you want? Are you looking for people to just spontaneously post a message detailing the mundane parts of life?, maybe post about the trials of life?, or maybe the triumphs of life?

Finally, this bbs is home to a wide cross section of aviation enthusiasts, so I can't generalize and say that we all lead a typical life. I can give a little insight into the life of a junior airline pilot. Our life is pretty much what you read here.

Early shows, long days, boarding delays, bit-hing pax, vindictive managers, childish FA's, crappy w/x, fourty page w/x packages, where do we eat?, when do we eat?, who's going out tonight?, are all the FA's slam clickers?, nags and fags, getting the motel room with the balcony, incompotent Captains, incompotent FO's, lazy gate agents, look at the behind on that blond, what line did you get next month?, be careful with that Captain, midnight checkrides, pink slips, lace slips, here's a picture of my kids, my kid wrecked his car, how do you like your Bimmer?, which way should we go around that buildup out at fourty miles?, my ex has my Bimmer, what about that new VP of ops, did you hear about the crew that got mugged last week?, where'd you come from?, just how much fun was a C-46?, wouldn't it be fun to island hop for Chalks?, how much do they pay?, can you believe that SWA is still making money?, was that for us?, let me show you this, can I make it to the gate or should I get up to piss now?, what's happening with the negotiations?, do ya think we'll get a raise?, are you willing to walk off the job?, isn't monica lewinsky a pig?, can you believe Clinton would do it with that? do ya think we should pull her back to .72 for a while?, are we going over block today? can you believe that we actually serve this crap to the pax?, did you see the new Bond flick yet?, isn't the new Bond girl hot?, Halle Berry really? OK, we'll throw another couple of logs on the fire, too much? we'll cool it off then, Vanessa Williams what a hot 40 year old, I prefer Salma Hayak or Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Why don't you kiss em bye bye this leg, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . . . . . .

I think you get the picture. We spend endless hours engaged in idle chatter as we oversee the auto-pilot. We really try to avoid serious issues in the cockpit, at least until we really know the person sitting in the other seat. Don't want to offend them inadvertantly you know.

So when I come here, I'm looking to increase my understanding of the industry that I work in. I'm looking for news, events, rumors, etc. Maybe I want to ask a question about the way someone else operates the airplane. Or just preach against PFT to anyone that happens to still read my posts.

I hope I've given a little insight into my world. There are obviously many other personalities on this board. They have different reasons to participate. Maybe some of them will give you some insight into their "daily lives".

Meanwhile, this is an anonymous forum. Don't let the flamers get under your skin. Post your thoughts, others will post theirs, read the good and ignore the rest.

Ask an aviation question and you'll get a correct answer. Whine, and you'll get killed.

I see your points, but I don't see how this has turned out to be a big deal.

I repeat, all I thought this thread would be was a place to get to know some of the pilots out in there, especially the professional ones which I never get to talk to IRL.

But I seem to get the point that you and others are making, that people talk only of aviation on this board.

That's fine, I think that's great, even though I think getting to know some of the people on the other end, that you might read teh words of for years.

Now, I see people don't want to talke about non-aviation stuff. I'm disappointed, but I'll let it go, and leave the "get to know each other talk"t o other aviation message boards and talk about technical aviation matters in here.

I've never whined. I have never insulted anyone on this board, I've been very civil, yet I've been insulted at and made fun of.

This "image" that people can't seem to grasp is that I think of pilots as special people and not like any other "blue collared" or however you want to put it workers out there. I think pilots are special people. Other message boards support this, this thread has done just the opposite.

Now let's stop this, and please, think twice before you hit that reply button. Your words remain egraved in time until the boards have a big problem and you start all over. This doesn't happen often, and literally thousands of people might read your words.

So before you make fun of my 29 POINT 6 hours total time, people telling me to change my user name or making fun of my sig, THINK!

You have all had 29.6 hours total time sometime in your life as a pilot, so how would you feel if people made fun of the .6 if you did put it there? If you have 6000 hours, you don't count the .6s, but as a student pilot, every tenth of an hour, for that reason, every minute of flight is an accomplishment and something to be proud of.

I wouldn't make fun of you people if you guys said you could not find out how much lift an arbitrary airfoil produces using panel methods or if you couldn't derive the Navier-Stokes equations.

So let's keep it civil and respectful.

Now some real education and some wisdom is about to pass from one generation to the next. Imagine checking into a hotel with five beautiful flight attendants. So you invite everyone to the bar, shoot you even offer to pay for the first round. You get to the hallway were all your rooms are and the FA's all go into their rooms. You hear SLAM, click as she bolts the door shut, and that is the last you see of the beautiful flight attendant till checkin time. I still can't figure out what they do with all their time in that room, but get used to it if you are an airline pilot. That FA is known as a SLAM/CLICKER.

So buy ALL the rounds. Of course this is one of those ideas that sounds good on paper but would probably end up with you still not getting any, and you now have no money to spend on porn. Unless of course you tote a universal remote around with you for whatever reason. Or if you forgot your universal remote you could *probably* steal one from the lounge that is compatible with the TV in your room, disconnect the On-Command system, and watch all sorts of neat things. So I've heard. I'd never do that. Not me. No, seriously....a captain I know told me about it. Yeah, thats it....thats the ticket.

Things to discuss

Archer, my friend, one thing you'll find out about pilots is if you see pilots and introduce yourself to them as one you will receive immediate acceptance. You don't have to be a big-time professional pilot with umpteen jillion hours. You will be accepted even as a student with your 29.6 hours.

I never believed it myself until my instructor said so. He suggested that the next time I took an airline flight that on deplaning that I tell the F/A at the door that I am a pilot and ask if I can say hello to the crew. I was extremely skeptical, but I tried it. He was right. I tried it and the gentlemen on the flight deck were extremely courteous and interested in my flying. I remember one time I was on a Continental flight and the pilots gave me a lot of encouragement about pursuing the career.

Further to Enigma's post, and as I wrote above, pilots like to talk about everything. Sports, golf, cars, investments, family events, family matters, the upcoming holidays. Work-related matters not directly related to flying are big topics. Who is hiring. The mins. How do you get an interview. Who do you know at the company. Mutual acquaintances. Read deeper in the board and you will find that union matters are very much a concern. Where to go for dinner. Etc., etc.

I think the primary reason why you see only aviation topics discussed is because it is an aviation board. Not a Professional Football, or Investments, or Family board. Just consider it from that perspective. Put up a specific question or topic and the good folks here are sure to provide specific responses.

First, enigma great post. I made my wife come in and read it cause it reminded me of my last leg into the hub yesterday.

Archer, five or so years ago I was in you shoes sort of. Back then it was Propilot.com everyday. I had a post go the opposit way I thought it would go on the Frax board the other day. I was delusional and had convinced myself that I should get a Citaion type raitng. I didnt think the folks who replied understood the intent of my post. Anyway, after some good PMs and thinking about it, I changed my mind. This is a great forum but as Enigma eluded to not everyone agrees nor would you want to agree with everyone who posts here.

My father taught me a long time ago that there's nothing more dangerous in aviation than (1) a doctor in a Bonanza, (2) more than one captain in the same cockpit, and (3) a flight attendant with a chipped tooth. (That was a lot funnier back when most F/A's were female.)

Remember this and you'll understand women: women want exactly what they want...but they won't tell you what they want because if you really loved them, you'd know!

Archer, sorry to disappoint you about the true nature of pilots. The fact is that we're pretty much unlike any other professional group. A few of us are princes, a few of us are jackasses...and most are somewhere in between.
