It's not what fits in the seat itself, it's the 'muffin-topping' effect that gets most people!

SWA should pull a Letterman. Admit publicly that they did a "terrible terrible thing", people will laugh uneasily, and before anyone knows it, SWA will be buying more aircraft to accommodate the increased demand.
 
So what IS the policy? Is there objective criteria? How big does someone need to be to require the purchase of a second seat? Does it matter if the customer is athletic-big, fat-big, or just plain big. Who makes the determination?
