I'm not in any way defending harassment, but I will tell you that there is definitely a certain amount of hazing especially during your first year at SWA. As a pilot I was constantly harassed by our F/A's especially for being the FNG during my first year. They would either look at my Employee Number or my shiney new crew bags and start right in. IMO, it was completely stupid, immature, and unprofessional, but I discovered for better or worse that it is a part of the SWA culture that seems to be accepted by a majority of the Employees. Just know that everyone at SWA has experienced the same thing and that it will get better, but the first year is definitely rough as a new hire, and YES that is how AirTran Employees crossing the partition are being looked on as at this point.

That is something to be proud of......nice....one luv.

Really?? Defend a herb turd "tradition" as if they are new hires? You are too ignorant to smell the bs you are spewing!

I wonder it is connected to SWA's early fighter pilot culture, that can be linked to USAFA and their freshman year hazing rituals.

The source of irritation comes from the fact that RSW FA training is militant. While going through training its not unusual for people to disappear, never to be seen again. They actually call them the body snatchers. Its tough training, and the FAT FAs are not getting that. They also are not getting probation which many of our RSW FAs have endured multiple times in different positions. Ive also heard because of their kinder friendlier treatment in training they are not showing an urgency to be on time at the AC. Only time will tell is we really start to treat the FAT FAs as militantly as we treat the RSW FAs.

Anybody who thinks they got hazed is just getting used to being new and not being saluted at work

Hazed? I never bought beer or many of my meals for that matter, so I guess I was hazed too. If an FA gives you a hard time about being new shes FLIRTING with you. My first year was great, it was only six years ago but the fun atmosphere was still alive and well here at SWA.

Hearing in Bwi and Mdw the FAs just getting there are being treated poorly. Especially senior FAT flying with junior RSW. It got so bad some are crying. I know u need thick skin with pax, but I guess now with those u have to work with too. Heard one rsw said to a fat that you have my dead friends employee number. Need some luv patrol at these bases I think from dal because I doubt the local supervisors will put a stop to it.

Why cant we edit titles. Dam phone.

Getting hazed by people wearing Lane Bryant Khaki Mom Shorts and white Keds. WOW.

Yup.....

Hazing is definitely too strong of a word for it..... It's all good natured "welcome aboard" type stuff ("Crack in the window", FAs asking for your help with a bin, and when you open it, there's an FA inside etc....).

I had a BLAST my first year, and I rarely opened my wallet on a trip.

I definitely don't condone mistreating anyone, but if you "professionals" can't take a good natured joke or 2, then problem is with you......

Sadly, I think it's how women treat each other alot of times. I remember seeing two flight attendants who were friends before the airline, exclude and be rude to the third flight attendant who was new to the airline. The FA who was being harassed was pretty, in her 40s, had co-managed a family bar, but still couldn't help from crying about it, and was mad at herself for letting them get to her. Change the title of this thread to some women are just petty b@tches.

A friend of mine, who was a checkairman at his last carrier, told me about the help he got from a Captain during his first few months here. After they pushed back he told him "Now you contact Ground Control", he looked at him and said "Really?, wow thanks".

He should have immediately called "ready for take-off" on Guard. Turned on the windshield wipers and then started drooling. Up the ante a little bit.

yes I was hazed. Twice, at cruise, in the cockpit, got to see some lovely sites, sorry, I'll be remembering those hazings forever.

Also most of the AirTran guys that went first wanted to go. Wait till the rest come over the partition it will be like US airways part II.

I can't wait! I want to be the first to form a cartel in ATL and get the phat pay!

In what way? 30 year FO's, mixing Metamucil in their coffee? AARP magazines left in the right-seat Jepp bag? Ray-Bans replaced by those post-cataract surgery goggles?

There are mixed bags.

Some people want to go over as fast as they can for pay (F/O's). Some people are bypassing because they are senior enough to hold CA on 1/1/15 and want to slide from one CA seat to another with a minimal time as F/O. Some CA's want to go because they're worried about furloughs over here. Some people (like me) are bypassing for quality of life issues (the more people who are junior to me here who go over before I do will keep me off reserve once I make the jump, and I like my mix of flying and days off on this side of the partition).

To say that it somehow directly relates to how well one will adapt to the culture at SWA isn't really a compelling argument. Everyone has their own timing and reasons for it.

Yeah so much. I fly the line just as much as you, and most are over it. But we still have all our special people that talk to theirselves none stop on the Board.
Funny ******************** right there!!! Oh yea and rock on!!!

What's taking you so long to go over? Must be the the way they're taking us out of order. Some pretty junior Ca's and f/o's making the jump.

BTW, I'm flying with f/o's that are updating their log books to move on as opposed to waiting to move forward here.

Are the "over it" folks the ones walking around with One Luv lantards and flag ties on acting giddy when the swa videos pop up on the crewroom tvs?

Don't know, and didn't say anything about being over it. Most are done with it and moving on

Yeah, not so much.

Man, I can't wait to fly with you, Mr. Whiny McBitterpants. What're you gonna' do when you get over here?-- Cry? Stomp your feet? Proclaim to the world how bad you got screwed? Will that make you feel better? Think it will change anything? By the way, do you think anyone will care? Maybe if you're lucky, some matronly flight attendant will pat you on the back and say, "there, there..."

Hey, we get it (from this and EVERY other freakin' post you've made): you didn't ask for this, and you don't like it. On the other hand, neither did we, and neither do we. But do what you want. Be a jerk. Complain and whine. Make yourself and everyone around you mad. Ensure all your crew interactions just suck, and that everyone around you is as miserable as you are. Knock yourself out.

Or don't.

The choice is yours and yours alone, Fletch.

Fletch is nothing like you describe, Bubba. He's actually a very easy-going guy with a good sense of humor, like most of us. He's just expressing his frustration at losing his seat, his seniority and his domicile, and he's not attacking anyone, crying, or blaming anyone, just expressing a little frustration.

Give the dude a break. I'm sure when he transitions, it'll be in his usual suave and de-boner way.

Well, that may be true in real life, Ty, but not on this board. And that's what people see and respond to--what's written on this board. I don't know him personally (that's the point in an annonymous forum), but I'll take your word for it that he's a good guy.

However, all of his posts on FI are negative towards the company, the integration, the culture, and his and our collective futures. Just go back and look at his remarks.... Someone says something positive? Fletch (and a few select others; I'm sure you know who they are): turns it around to something bad. Every time. Someone repeats that we're over the arguing and moving forward? Fletch comes back with "Not me." None of us asked for this, Ty, and his devisiveness is not especially helpful. Maybe he can find other ways to express his frustration.

Like you said and I agreed: in real live maybe he's a peach. And of course I'll give him a break, because I probably won't know who he is if he acts "like most of us." I'm sure we'll all get along fine. But on this board, he IS attacking, crying and blaming. That was my point.

Bubba
