JR crashes a stunt plane in Alabama a few years ago and is only alive due to a former military rescue swimmer seeing him go down into the lake. The guy jumps in his boat after seeing the airplane go down and it takes him three attempts to pull him from the wreckage under water. I see JR a month later climbing out of his CJ he single pilots after some serious injuries he encountered in the crash limping across the ramp.

He must be on that FAA Stealth Program..........the rest of us are not privileged to be associated.

You must have missed the title of my post. I was not bashing anyone. I was using that mishap as an example of how some racing teams operate. Did you even read the report?

JR is the prez of a 300 mil a year conglomerate.

Made a mistake? Either you didn't read the NTSB report or you are overlooking the truth because of your connection to them. That's like saying Donald Trump is a contractor. A mistake is landing without putting down the last increment of flaps on accident. Those pilots made a series of blunders resulting in the death of what, 10 people? Look man, they had no idea where they were. No idea. You call that a mistake? Not only were they lost, they had no clue they they were lost? How does that happen? In all of their experience, they failed to learn how you read and follow approach charts and verify their exact location? Is that what you are saying. Wasn't the F/O low time? They were using a NON IFR APPROVED handheld GPS for navigation in deep IMC? A mistake? No. The behavior of a professional? No. Terrible judgement? Yes.

What on earth does you knowing this crew have to do with the truth about what happened? Nobody bashed these guys. They screwed up big time, killiing several people because they did not follow several the rules and they got lost. It's just that simple. I'm sure they were good people, but this accidnet is a shining example of how not to operate any type of aircraft. Just because you knew these pilots does not take away from what happened and not wanting someone to talk about the facts does not bring them back. If you are going to bash me of writing this, fine, but please begin your retort by correcting anything I have written that is not true.

Several years ago there was a Beech Duke that sat in the FBO I worked at for a long time due to the lack of a tail after a run in with a certain wealthy business man's P-51. I didn't see it happen, but was told that the P-51 flew out the same day after filing the dings out of the prop.

I saw a magazine article, in STRATOS or PRIVATE-AIR (the mags laying around the FBO's) that claimed he and Zantop were putting together like two 727's and starting some sort of airline or charter company.

The 727s are kept over at CLT, but the rest of the fleet and the Roush headquarters are over at JQF. He flies his single pilot CJ (painted like a P51) and his P51s into JQF often.

They were flying the LOC APP off a non-IFR GPS. They did not have the LOC tuned. According to the report.

A few notes directly from the full NTSB Report:

Kamikaize, the NTSB is under the impression the FO had 1000 (One Thousand) hours less time than you stated. You should contact them and tell them they messed up the investigation by not throughly investigating her times. I guess they made a mistake in determining that she had just passed the 2000 hour mark.

She was hired by Hendrick Motorsports on November 19, 2001.
A review of company training records revealed that the first officer had accumulated 2,090 hours of total flying time, including 1,200 hours in single-engine airplanes and 860 hours in multiengine airplanes. Hendrick Motorsports reported that the first officer had accumulated 640 hours of flying time since her date of hire, 121 hours of which were in the Beech King Air 200. (That's about 214 hours/year)


PROBABLE CAUSE
The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the probable cause of this accident was the flight crew’s failure to properly execute the published instrument approach procedure, including the published missed approach procedure, which resulted in controlled flight into terrain. Contributing to the cause of the accident was the flight crew’s failure to use all available navigational aids to confirm and monitor the airplane’s position during the approach.

The GPS database was not current and therefore was not certified for IFR navigation. The airplane was not equipped with an enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS).

On powerup, the database displayed a date of September 3, 2003, (The accident was October 24, 2004) with the message “non-current database.” The database also displayed a message indicating that “all data must be confirmed before use,” which was acknowledged by the pilot. (That database expired over a year prior to the accident.)

The published missed approach procedure called for a climbing right turn at the MAP, which is over the runway threshold. Radar data indicated that the flight crew initiated the missed approach 7.5 nm beyond the MAP. The airplane then entered a straight-ahead climb on the runway heading. (As I previously stated, they were LOST)

I am amazed the CP at the time has since been promoted to DO. He should be unemployed at least, if not in jail for allowing this type of thing to go on. Cowboys. If you are still not in sync with the facts of this unfortunate accident, ask yourself this,

Do you think Jack Roush has any sympathy for the 2 pilots that wiped out a large majority of this family? Would you? Would you call this a "mistake" if it were your family?
