I just got done reading this (mostly) pathetic post (thanks to the salary bashing).... good on you mate. I would be making the same exact choice in your shoes. Some people just don't understand the fact that, it doesn't matter what you fly or even what airline you fly for, what matters is the family life and not being married to the job. I commend you for seeing the big picture.

You can live very well on 100k. I know I do. But 100k after 18 years of work is just not enough. Sure you can live on it. Comfortably.

Its just not enough after 18 years of service. It really isn't much in the big picture of things.

Wouldn't it be nice to own that house instead of rent the apt? What about going out to the movies instead of renting one?

Yes, that would be nice. But I think I speak for a bunch of us when I say that you could buy a house with an income of far less than $100K--it's just about how much "luxury" you think that you need.

I would submit that all luxury is marginal, meaning it really isn't that important. Say I have the option of buy a Lexus vs. a Toyota--they both get me from point A to point B in safety and comfort and efficiency, and in the same amount of time, so the luxury is marginal, meaning that the fancy stuff like leather seats and power windows and whatever "crap" they install on the car to raise the price isn't worth the extra money you pay. Some cars have wipers on the headlights. In my 14 years of driving, I would have used that approximately two times. Give me a break.

Well said Goose...but just give it a minute, as usual Diesel is gonna come back with some sorry a$$ speach to justify what he said. Oh and by the way like goose said, I went to the movies last friday, but it would be stupid to piss away $30 4 times a week at the movies just b/c I have nothing better to do with my money.

I had a house when my wife and I had a combined income of 55K/year back in the early to mid 90's. We lived in a nice little suburb of Fort Lauderdale and had a pool. It can be done.

Just relax and have fun--the thing is pretty cool, and I actually enjoyed it a lot. You get a very thourough briefing beforehand. Actually, the sim is described pretty well on the gouges on aviationinterviews.com, so you might want to check it out.

I had zero jet time, and had never flown glass, and the guy told me that I did well. That's a good feeling!
