At the risk of redirecting this thread to the QOL at Redwood, what is the Cali tax impact on commuters? Any unavoidable state or municipal taxes withheld from an out of state resident? For example the City of Denver demands something like 2/10ths of 1%, and it only matters that you're based there, regardless of residency. Anything similar?

Don't worry, when the Spirit / VA merger happens, ALPA will be on property with our spectacular Spirit contract.

The various times I was based out there I had to pay unemployment and disability taxes as a part of my paycheck. It's not that much, and I got it back from them when ATA shut down and I collected UE from CA at a higher amount than I would have had to collect from TX.

The Californian tax authority tried to come after numerous non-resident ATA pilots for back income taxes. We explained about the RLA and that only about 5 minutes of each flight were over California territory. We were flying to HI. They backed off. Having said that, if you fly SFO-LAX, the state might come after you for taxes incurred on that flight, since you never left the state.

Good luck.

I feel like every time I log on and read these boards, I become a little more stupid. Life must really be bad if all you have to p!ss and moan about is threads on incorrect boards. I have a really hard time believing you are professional pilots.

Sadly, I can :erm:

Hey Wave, wear a flag tie so I know who to bitchslap next time I'm in the terminal!!:uzi:

Are you the old guy I saw the other day who kept pulling out the $1000 transplant hair follicles from the Hair Club every time someone from VA walked by in KSFO??

Give it a rest with trashing other's decisions on how they got here. The real reason for your childish heartburn about your "diminished career" can be traced back to one simple fact: You and many others in our profession see other pilots not as colleagues but as competitors. As long as that tired attitude remains a fact we will never be rewarded properly for what we do.
