Don't have pictures of either, but just saw the Virgin pilot uniform. Charcoal gray slacks, long sleeve black shirt, no tie, no epaulets, rank insignia pin on collar.

Haven't seen the Skybus uniform, but have heard they have khaki Docker type pants with a green collared shirt. Heard that it looks like a forest ranger.

Does anyone have any pictures of these?

I thought the VA uniform was hideous. Kind of like Johnny Cash meets captain Picard.

Thoughts?

I heard the VA pilots told Branson the uniform was unsat... the reply was... they're already ordered... wear them for now and we'll see about the future.... not sure how valid this info is...... any VA pilots?

Are you guys sure? I was at SFO about a month ago and in the hotel van there were 2 pilots that came in they had a normal pilot uniform but the epauletes had a combination of black, silver and red. They looked like U.S pilots and because of the red epaulets I assumed they were VA.

The uniform is black shirt. We had a JS going to SFO. Not to offend anyone, but it kind of looks neo-nazi.

Apparently the VA uniform and the soon-to-be-issued leather jacket (not exactly industry standard design...) was designed by a rather flaming male FA.

The pilots are not happy. For once, I agree with Rez. TC

J41driver,

Really, Those guys need to get their priorities in the correct order. You want me to wear what? Not for that money buddy. But, hey give me a nice professional looking uniform (So I can get all that respect in the airport) and I would do this job for free. Brilliant just brilliant!! Heck Stybus pilots can second as forest rangers. Maybe the VA guys can get gigs in Vegas as J. Cash impersonators.

"A PLEDGE PIN!?!?!...ON YOUR UNIFORM!?!?!?"

Hey Vixin!

You never answered my question on a previous thread about whether or not the very first pilots at SWA should get the disrespect you dole out here because the took jobs below industry scale.

How can you share a flightdeck w/ them?

Sure if they damaged the industry at the time you bet. The industry didnt need a bar lowered then and it sure the he11 doesnt need it now. I guess idiots like yourself are represented every decade. Way to go with your SNJS. I hope you like butt kissing for that upgrade.

I share the flightdeck just fine with them. They built a company I CAN have respect working for. Respect for myself, I couldnt give a rats a55 what they did. Most of them are good down to earth guys. However, most of them will admitt their pay sucked then. Unlike the idiots like yourself who proclaim VA is so great.

Have/did you apply to SWA? Why couldnt you get hired at SWA, CAL, AAI, JBLU, UPS or FedEx or heck even United and Delta? Are these companies not good enough for you? Guys like you need to lower the bar, while these pilot groups are going to be in negotiations. Way to go Nancy. Did I answer it for you now?

Back to the thread.
So lets see a picture of that snazy uniform and your special pin. Do you guys pin each in the cockpit? Is it like asking each other out or something?

Oh my are you a VA pilot? Sucks to be u. If you did make the mistake of going to an airline that does not respect seniority or pilots in general then dont worry. Almost all the majors are hiring right now. Dont sell yourself short. GO!

That doesn't make much sense. So what you are saying is that you will follow the pay and screw the hard work getting it there. Those SW guys who built the company and sacrificed a little to get it to where it is deserve the pay, you are just riding on there coat tails. They had to start somewhere, which, when SW first started up you most likely wouldn't have worked there and would have been spewing forth venomous words attacking them for "lowering the bar", but now it's just fine.

I bet in 10 years when VA has better pay, you would go work there if something ever happened to SW.

VA Uniforms

I saw the VA uniforms the other day in LAX. I'm usually not the one to throw stones but I thought they looked rather tacky on the pilots. As GP said. Black shirts, Dockers, no tie, no epaulets...

The FA's were fine though. Maybe it just requires getting used to but it didn't impress me or my crew...

The FA's were fine as in their uniforms were fine, or they were fine FA's???

Why don't the pilot group have the nuts to stand up and say we are not wearing that garbage?

Same could be said for compensation packages at ANY airline.

Not to go against the grain but who cares what the uniforms look like.

I am still wondering why the heck I have to wear epilates. A polo shirt with some dockers is the standard dress code at many places of business today. As for a seniority identifier, who cares. Do you treat someone differently because they were 3 tripes instead of 4. I have never understood the whole pilot uniform get up, all I know is that out of the 3 airlines I have worked at all the uniforms were uncomfortable, a pain to keep clean and wrinkle free, and did very little other than to identify the crew to the PAX in the terminal. I guess that was so I could answer their questions about why the plane they are on is delayed or how to get to gate 37.

Find me a company that pays like UPS/FedEx and will let me wear a uniform like a Southwest flight attendants and I am there.....

Nawwww man. The uniforms were fine. Kind of Jetblue-ish.. the FA's themselves looked like empty nesters, mid life crisis like folks... They were kind of old/switch hitters. We spoke briefly though. Good people...

Box-Hauler: You wanna be a pilot or a desk jockey!? Yeah, have fun with that...

Well technically I guess I am a truck driver, unlike the PAX carriers who are bus drivers. So if I don't wear some stupid stripes on my shoulders or a hat that makes me look like a bellman I cant fly...... Yeah, OK.

That is the reason we still have to wear this crap, because some guys get an ego boost by people looking at them or they still think they are going to get saluted by someone. Which one are you?

Bing-bing-bing...we have a winner. I agree; I wore a uniform once...it was in the military. Airline pilots don't wear uniforms...they wear costumes.

I don't get an ego boost, I just believe in tradition. Do you feel that Police Officers, Fire Fighters or Medical Personnel have egos because they wear "costumes?" BTW box-hauler, if you think of yourself as a truckdriver then you'll be treated like one. Here's the website for you: www.truckschool.com. Maybe you'll fit in better there?

I agree 100%.

I think the airlines would love to let you wear cutoffs and flip flops, but I think that your paycheck would reflect that as well.

These VA and SBus uniforms must be terrible as none of these pilots are defending themselves here.
