While I am definitely not an Obama supporter, I must say that gesture was in very good taste and professional. I am cautiously optimistic that this kind gesture is a symbol to all military members and their families that this president will be mindful or their needs.

He needs to look like he supports the military before he slashes the budget.
Yes, I AM that cynical.
Make no mistake. This guys is not a friend of the military. In this case, it's 1992 redux.

just thought it was pretty cool since i haven't seen any other president shake hands of the marine standing at the air stairs before.:pimp:
There's a reason you haven't seen it before: it's not what Presidents traditionally do. While Mr Obama probably meant to show some sort of cool greeting, the fact he didn't appear to even return the salute is a direct reflection of his lack of understanding of military protocol and etiquette. I'm sure he meant no disrespect, but I'll be surprised if he does it the next time he flies Marine One. I'm hoping his military advisors will debrief him. He's the CinC, and he needs to get comfortable with that,... or at least act like he is.

That's funny. I was in the military under Bush and Clinton. Bush gave the military a pay raise and everyone applauded him. Then he sent us on a wild goose chase in the desert.

So you don't like #43. Great.

However, on the subject at hand, #44 will be 1992 Redux IMHO.

At least it was a pay raise instead of a pay cut from someone who sent us to Africa, Eastern Europe, etc to cover for his BJ scandal!

Jafo, why are you on this message board making stuff up? Why are you disrespecting the men and women in uniform and telling a blatent lie? Why? Why are you on here lying to everyone? Before you come on here with this trash, know the facts. Know the facts so you'll quit making yourself look like you are an idiot. Remember the old saying about opening your mouth and confirming for everyone how stupid you are? Nobody ever taught you that?

BTW, McCain voted AGAINST this pay raise Clinton gave the military, just as he did last year when it came time to give the Military more money in their GI Bill because it would allow them to better themselves 'too much', in McCain's words.

Bush Opposing Military Pay Raise (It's unnecessary)
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/05/23/military-pay-cut/

Bush opposing ANOTHER pay raise (3.5% too much. 3% is just fine)
http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/05/military_payhike_whitehouse_070516/

Bush Veto of Military Pay Raise (they still got 3% becasue of a previous bill that Clinton signed into law) http://usmilitary.about.com/od/militarypay/a/veto.htm

Tell another lie and you'll get clowned again. Now, get your facts straight before you get on here again.

Why don't you stay off the military forum? You just like to come on here and spread your lying BS. There were plenty of raises under the Bush admin. A heckuva lot more than under Clinton. And besides, when is a 3% raise not a raise? When you grow a pair and actually serve this country then feel free to come here with the real men.
