Northwest asks Mesaba to remove jets from service

9/27/2005
In an SEC filing last week, MAIR Holdings, Inc., parent company of Mesaba Airlines, said Northwest provided the company with a flight schedule that calls for reduced flying.

The schedule provides that nine of the Avro Regional Jets (“Avros”) operated by Mesaba will be removed from service. Additionally, on September 21, 2005, Northwest provided Mesaba with written notice of its intent, effective December 20, 2005, to terminate the leases between Northwest and Mesaba for all 35 of the Avros operated by Mesaba. The termination of these leases and subsequent removal of the Avros from Mesaba’s fleet will result in a substantial decrease in Mesaba’s revenue and will have a material adverse effect on the Company’s financial results. Mesaba has notified Northwest that the removal of the nine Avros from service as of October 31 is in violation of the parties’ contractual arrangement, and Mesaba is reviewing all available alternatives.

Separately, on September 23, 2005, Mesaba provided written notice to Northwest that a portion of the amount Northwest failed to pay Mesaba on September 12, 2005 included approximately $400,000 due for Mesaba’s provision of ground handling services to Northwest and Pinnacle Airlines, Inc. Mesaba notified Northwest that Mesaba reserves the right to terminate ground handling services and to exercise any other available remedies.

Who does she work for these days?
She used to be in charge of pilot recruitment at AA in the 80's.

NWA can say all they want its the judge who does the doing.

Yeah right. Steenland and the judge will never come up with a "gentleman's agreement". Naivety at it's finest. They were probably roommates at Harvard.

NWA pays $1.80 a gallon for fuel, give or take a few cents. They sell it to Mesaba and Pinnacle for .80 cents or so. NWA employees getting the hose job.

I agree.

All airline employees (except the CEO and the Board) are getting it in the pooper without the KY these days. And it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon

So you dont think that Mesaba and Pinnacle should pay .80 cents for their fuel? Would you like them to pay more?

Thats fine, but will YOU please raise the ticket price for those flights so they can pay for the higher fuel price. The price of the airfare is out of Mesaba and pinnacles control.

Why dont you just charge 1 dollar for a mesaba or pinnacle ticket and then charge them 700.00 dollars a gallon for fuel. Not to smart an arguement is it?
