Why? For the life of me I cannot figure out why every airline has to feel the need to cut their cost down to that of Southwest. Even more, it can't be done by a Legacy carrier. The nature of our company with one fleet type, and 25 minute turns enables Southwest to have a cost advantage over a Legacy carrier. We are basic transportation, nothing more. No First Class cabins, No World Clubs, No Hot Shot VIP boarding status, NOTHING. If Northwest insists that it needs to be around Southwest's costs, then they need to eliminate much of the premiums they give out and get down to basic air transportation. And let Steenland know that Gary Kelly earned, in 2005, only $405,000 in salary, not much in this industry for a CEO that can turn out a profit.
