A hat makes you professional.

NO...being a professional and conducting yourself as such makes you a professional.

Isn't there a post here about how John Travolta likes to wear his little pilot suit and hat about town? Does that make him a professional? I think not.

I don't like hats. I don't wear hats on my time.

If the person paying me to fly that plane says to wear the hat...it's their dime...I'll wear the hat.

Yeah Mr. Peanuckle I hear you. We have better things to worry about. Thing is those better things are on hold right now until we can get to the table.

There has been rumors that as soon as Leonard was gone, we could get rid of the damn hats. He's gone so let's do it. I know you love your hat and it makes you feel so good putting it on. I, among others, hate the damn thing and it is a nuisance that does nothing for me or my customers. My smile and dialogue with the customers is what gives them a good experience.

Everything else in my uniform serves a purpose. The hat is outdated and waste of my time. BTW as you can see, most people have voted to get rid of it.

So what do you want me to do about FO pay right now?

Speak your mind, even if your voice is shaking!!
BELIEVE!-flyfastliveslow

I speak clearly and confidently and believe what I write.

ValueJet/Air Tran is a sloppy little crap box of a carrier. And if you were such a ketch you would have landed a real job with a real company.

Wear your hat. Build your time. And keep your resume up to date. You may be put to the test you think you are so good at loser.

You are a piece of work. Lay the crack pipe down and step away from the computer before your parents catch you "wacking off" to the sight of bras and panties on the Victoria's Secret web page.

Incidentally, the following make up part of our senority list:
- at least 6 pilots I know of who have flown the Vice President of the United States
- a Thunderbird Pilot
- countless military pilots who have thousands of hours of combat time
- hundreds of dedicated professional pilots who have flown for the likes of Delta, USAir, American, United, TWA, etc.
- Oh, did I fail to mention a management team that made money every year in argueably the worst decade in US airline history.

Yea, sounds like a "crap box of a carrier" to me. What a putz you are!!!

In the interest of not aiding to your hijacking of this thread I do think the hat makes any pilot look more professional. Besides, it keeps people from handing us their luggage while we wait for a hotel room after a long day of flying.

Oh, if that were only true. In MDW last week I had one couple ask for "bag service" and another ask me to call the shuttle. The only good thing was I made two buck carrying four bags.

Professionalism is something far beyond a hat. I think the hat is an outdated concept and it simplifies being a professional to suggest one can achieve it with simply donning a hat.

Wear your hat so you don't look like a stewardess.

We don't call them stewardeses anymore. Maybe in your Grandma's day thats what they were called. I'm glad you feel like a real pilot with your hat on dude. All the more power to you. I can look the part and be the utmost professional without it.

Apparently this guy's dad was fired from Air Tran and he didn't get his Pilot Barbie for Christmas this year.

Speaking of education...you might want to look into some of that yourself, Einstein.

How's your meth mouth, have you seen a specialist about that yet?

I say wear the hat. Who wants to look like a SWA pilot?

I'll wear a friggin TU TU if they pay me appropriately. But as long as I am in debt because of $hit FO pay rates, NO HAT ON MY HEAD. Except maybe in ATL; I'm tired of that old gray funny shoe wearing scab bitchin at me as he trolls the concourse like a small town cop. And yes I did know the rates when I came here, and was also told I would have upgraded by now...and there would be a new higher fo paying contract too. So please back off all you dorky hat wearing, mngmt lovin, scab electin, bald spot coverin, couldn't survive in the real world types. (I must say I fall into that last catagory, however;)

I want to look like a SWA pilot. I also want my paycheck to resemble theirs too. But I guess you'd rather make less and look professional, Flyfastliveslow. BTW...gay name.

Not wearing your hat is your big rebellious statement? Wooooooowwwwww, impressive
. And yes I did know the rates when I came here, and was also told I would have upgraded by now...and there would be a new higher fo paying contract too.

No one PROMISED you any of that. You came here on speculation apparantly. I'm guessing you also bought the giant house in Florida with an interest only ARM at 3% 3 years ago because we all know that housing prices never decline. So what is your protest there? You refuse to mow the lawn because it didn't appreciate and you payment went up?

an OPTIONAL wearing of the hat satisfies all. if you want to wear this old symbol on your cranium you can.

now, what about that napkin we're all forced to wear? talk about an old "fashion" holdover.

We won't get the payrates we want by refusing to wear our hats. Quite the opposite, in fact.

I want to look like a SWA pilot.
Then do us all a favor an apply there.

I
also want my paycheck to resemble theirs too.
That would be nice. Might happen, might not. Your attitude hardly unifies the pilot group. You're not inspirational at all, you just an ass.

But I guess you'd rather make less and look professional,
I would prefer to do BOTH. And until the policy is changed....you know, the one when I got hired, the one when you got hired, I'll put the hat on.

Flyfastliveslow. BTW...gay name.
Talk to Jimmy B. if you don't like the phrase.

Was commuting to IAH the other day and sitting in the food court in the AUS airport enjoying some good Salt Lick BBQ. A businessman asked if he could join me at my table. I said sure. I was wearing my "try to be incognito" commuting attire(black NorthFace jacket covering my uniform shirt as I leave my jacket and hat hanging up in the IAH crew room). He asked me where I was going(thought he could not recognize me as a pilot). I said Lima, Peru. He asked me "when did Continental Express start flying long haul to South America?" I, being surprised told him I flew for Continental and he laughed and said: "I'm sorry, I thought you flew for a regional or something dressed like that. Major airlie pilots normally have blazers with stripes and a hat." I explained that I commute etc. and embarassingly rethought my whole commute attire going forward. Point is, these business regulars do notice these things. Don't be so sure that the pax could really care less how you present yourself. The guys who keep these airlines afloat do notice the employees.

Actually, ALL of us were TOLD, very specifically, by several HR personnel and just about everyone in the training department that upgrades for us would be about two years.

In their words (heard repeatedly): "You're going to come back in for one recurrent, then, the next time your'e here, it will be for upgrade".

No, it's not a promise, and I don't think the man said anything about having bet the bank on it (he actually very specifically said he was well aware of the vagueries of upgrade timing), so have a cup of decaf, man...

Jeez, we're actually going to go 7 pages about the stupid hat.

Yes, I wore mine. Yes, it was because it was company policy, even when I got off probation. I agreed to follow the rules, so I did. Period. I don't especially like it. I cut my hair pretty short and it still gets sweaty and messed up with the hat on.

It *DOES* make the whole uniform a lot snazzier... but only if you're wearing the blazer and not the dog sh*t brown leather jacket. What a stupid color...
